From SS to TT?

Few weeks ago I asked if I should trade my SS GMTIIC for a TT GMTIIC. Well, I'm still thinking about it.

I understand it's a matter of personal preference and I WILL get what sings to me louder. I get that; been around here long enough. This is not a "should I do it" thread. I want to know your opinion.

So, what's your take on TT watches?

Have you ever went from SS to TT and then regretted it? Why?

I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to get bored with the TT with time or if it's gonna feel tacky later on.

A wrist shot to make this thread less boring

I'm not a big fan on the modern day TT c.

I feel the TT bluesy and GMT Root Beer are classics along with the DJ of course.

Is there a particular reason why you don't like ceramic TT Rolex? Just the looks?

I feel like the maxi dial is best suited on the SS models.

@identity crisis. Mid-life maybe is what I'm going through then. All I need is a red convertible!

In all seriousness though, I've heard that argument before as it may appear that I'm "trying so hard" or can't afford YG (which is true btw, lol). But that same argument can be made on YG watches, too

Interesting. I think that nipple dials looked best on gold watches, too.

Haha! I don't buy the "looks like you can't afford..." argument. I just meant an identity crisis through an a esthetics perspective.

I'm 28, and two of my first 3 Rolexes were TT. The look just didn't do it for me anymore. I love the crispness and fresh look of SS with PCLs.

I agree.
The plain black one in TT is... Wrong. Much better in SS in my opinion.
Get yourself a Root Beer instead ;)

I started out with SS

Then got myself a TT

I love the 116613lb. It looks great in sun, the dial is just amazing. It puts a smile on my face. The feeling never gets old so I don’t think TT will ever get boring. I practically have to force myself to wear SS once in a while. Get yourself a TT – you won’t regret it. I know I am saving my pennies for another TT purchase someday – possibly the GMT like what you’re eyeing.

the gold will of course be softer if durability is a concern

Durability per se is not a concern as I'm fairly cautious with my watches. However, longitivtiy is; I plan to give my watches to my sons one day.

I would think you would get bored of the plain jane SS model first. I am not sure why you could ever think its "tacky"? Perhaps you are not ready to step up to gold yet.

My TTc watches brighten my mood when my day gets slow and stale. No regrets.

That could be it, I don't know. Trying to process it and make a decision as I absolutely love it. Just want to be sure I have my mind where my heart is.

I would not do it. If I had money for a multiple collection yes I would buy the blue sunburst Sub but its not my particular case so classic black everytime.

Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. It's not going to my daily, though. I have my DJII smooth bezel and my Cartier MC as my daily watches.

This is going to be part of my "feel good" collection along with the DJII diamond set.

Having said that, I do love the TT Sub LB, but the blue is too much for a brown hair/eyes guy IMO.

I went the other way, from TT Bluesy to SS GMTc. I grew tired of the TT after having it for years, as younger guy. I was flashier and so was my watch. As I got a bit older, I began to feel it was showy, a little gaudy. So, going to the SS was intentionally less eye candy as I wanted to back it off a notch. Im just not a yellow gold guy anymore.

I think I'm at the same stage you were in. Early 30s here. Afraid in few years, it would be a little "in-your-face" and rub people the wrong way. I don't care what people think, but still don't want to misrepresent myself if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the prospective. Please feel free to elaborate on what happened, if you don't mind.

Sam,
I owned the TT Bluesy from age 35 to 45. Im now 50. As I got more gray hair and whiskers and a bit less color to my skin, the TT simply didn't fit my "look". All my clothes and suits drifted to various blue and gray tones. Hence the SS just looked better...went with more things.

From age 35 to 45, I road a Harley, had a high profile / public position, met with tons of people each day, dressed in suits that had some tans, browns and greens in them, more multi color neckties. The TT watch was very eye catching and perhaps so was I. I also lived in Latin America where gold or TT was simply more common. These days I'm simply a bit more conservative and a little older. So, the SS just fits my lifestyle better. Also less "in your face". Less brash, more understated.

I was right then. I'm "young you". it seemed like you were describing me for a little there although I live in Arizona. Close enough, huh?

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm 40. Just bought a TT DJ2.

I love it.

Never thought I would. But it sings a bit differently than my other watches.

Thinking bluesy next.

That's very interesting, Seth. I've never thought I would ever consider a TT watch, but here I'm. There's definitely a certain appeal to it.

If you intend to pass it down to your son, the keep the SS.

I thought younger kids loved a bit of flash. Have you seen Justin Biebers's wrist recently? chuckle:

I did it and regretted it ! - It was a fast flip
I had the SS GMTc for years and always thought I wanted a TT GMTc. But when I got it I hated it on. The bezel is just to in your face on the TT GMTc , IMHO.

The thing is, I'm starting to get bored with my SS. It feels silent. Is that what you felt, too?

You see, I don't mind the flashiness since it's not going to be my daily. This is at Lear what I think now.

Is there any other reason for why you didn't like it? I hope you didn't take a big hit on it.

I have always been a gold fan in both TT, and solid. Not one day was I ever tired of it, or regretted owning gold.
