SubC or Datejust II

I've been checking out Rolex's new line of watches and was interested in a Sub Ceramic as the classic diver. Once I saw it on my wrist (8"), it actually looked smaller than I anticipated... probably because most photos on wrist are smaller than mine.

The clerk recommended I look at a Datejust II and I was not interested in the fluted bezel as it's just too loud for me, but... she suggested I check out the smooth bezel (just happened to be silver face with stick dial) and I was truly surprised. It really sung out to me.

I believe part of this is in fact because it's 41mm (not 40mm) and the light dial and lack of a bezel provide the watch a larger "look". I've gone back twice to try these on and the Datejust II is definitely more comfortable as well and I actually like the polished center links.

What do you think? Does the SubC look too small on me? Is the Datejust II a better fit on my big wrist? I would not have believed this before, but I'm leaning toward the Datejust II.

Thoughts? Comments? Just looking for feedback. Best

Welcome to TRF!

Regardless what we think, it sounds like you really prefer the DJII. Both look good on you, but if you like the DJII more, you should buy it. You can always buy a Sub later!

Welcome to TRF! honestly you cannot go wrong and it is all about personal preference. For me I am more of a Sub/GMT guy rather than the DJ but they are all beautiful. IMO the Sub looks great on your wrist and the size difference being so minimal at 1mm doesn't make that big of a difference.

That being said based on your post it sounds like you really prefer the DJ2 and if that is the case that would be the one I chose

Those fat stick markers on the DJ11 do not do the watch justice IMO. Go the sub, it looks great.

The DJII is a great choice (comfort, PCLs). Go with your gut and post some wrist shots of the DJII once you pull the trigger.

BTW, the SubC does not look too small.

It seems like you are being pulled to the DJII. There's nothing wrong with that, if that's what you want. I like the DJII, however I don't dress up that often, so I stick with the sport watches. There are those that can pull off the DJII with jeans and a t-shirt. Pick the best one for you, comfort is the most important I think.

P.S. You could get both!!!

I'm almost in the same boat. Gmt blnr v datejust ii with fluted bezel.

I agree that when you put it on next to a dJii it does look comparably small. However by itself it's fine.

I'm leaning towards the djii.

I think either one alone will look great. However, for an 8 inch wrist, I might, might, might give the very slight advantage to the light dial DJ2 for the reasons you state (almost optical illusion).

I would would give further advantage to the DJ2 if you tend more toward suits / formal wear.

Your pics are too close in to tell, ideally you need to be at least 12 inches away, but if you have 8 inch wrists then I imagine the larger DJ2 would suit you better.

I vote Sub-C , but you have to listen to which one is singing the loudest to you.

I thing the domed bezel looks much better than the flat you are considering, and that might help you make up your mind...

No that is what a Rolex should look like! When I see this I like the DJ II less and less. Great watch.

Not a fan of the DJ II, I would pick the Sub.

I think that the SubC looks fine on your wrist but as you said the DJ sang to you... you'll probably end up with both anyway so really the question that you're asking is which one do you get first. Welcome to TRF, great bunch here!

The watches are very different in both style, function and purpose. Are you looking for something casual/sporty or more formal?

Exactly my thought, we're debating 1 tiny mm between two completely different watches. What look are you going for?

Join date 2011. First post, yesterday. Lets hope for a few more in the next few years.

That out of the way:

two extremely different watches. i personally think the DJII looks awesome on you. additionally, i think the sub is amazing too, but the DJ is much nicer.

AND, i think the DJII is far more versatile. you can do literally anything in that watch.

that would be my pick. good luck, either way, you win.

Either way you'll have a great watch (and probably another watch you'll start saving up for...)

Welcome and good luck!
