Is this too big?

Hi all, I just picked up a new caldiver 500 from deep blue. I am debating whether keeping it or flipping it. Your opinions would be greatly valued. If you think it's too big, what would be a nice swiss auto watch between 500-700 new? I would like one on a bracelet and would like something at least 100m of water resistance.

Magazine and quarter for size reference

Definitely on the larger side but looks ok to me. All that matters is if you're happy with it.

No offense, but if no one will tell it to you straight, I will. Way too big, IMHO. In that price range look at Hamilton, Victorinox, Wenger etc....

My preference would be Hamilton.

Definitely scale back on the case size as well as the bracelet.

Hey! No offense taken! I wanted people's honest opinion. I'm saving up for a explorer I rolex and I was looking for something to hold me over for a year or two while I save. Thanks for the honesty.

PADI,
Check out these pix. I selected them based on the fact that you said you liked an Explorer. 1 They are of the OP 116000. Like the Explorer 1, it would be more size appropriate and is a very similar style. 36mm would work great for you.

The pix are from various sites on the net. None are mine, but all are great pix. The OP 116000 also comes with several other dial choices.

Like there Explorer 1, this is also a simple, understated, classic that someone could buy and have /wear for a lifetime and then pass on to the kids. Would be a permanent part on the collection, that goes with everything, IMHO.

That oyster perpetual with the blue is a beautiful watch! It would be between that and the 39mm explorer for which watch I would purchase. I have about 2 thousand saved and expect to have enough by the end of this year for one of them.
Thanks for your opinion and suggestion!!

Judging from the photos I'd recommend you to try a 36mm piece and see how it feels.

I think it looks a little bit too big. If you want a nice diver, why not look into Seiko? The Shogun is really nice. It's a little out of your price range, but you should be able to get a slightly used one within your price range and you will be able to flip it easily if you ever decide to sell it.

It's not mine (sorry for any confusion). Like you, I also really like it. Aesthetically, I think it is just wonderful. The only complaint that I've read is that Seiko uses one of their mid-tier movements found in some of their cheaper watches.

I can definitely see myself wearing one. They look awesome on a nato/zulu.

yeah the price has me a bit leery, especially if the movement is of a lower grade.

Sorry to hijack, now back to your regularly scheduled size discussion.

big & thick, but, if that's the look you want, not totally crazy looking.

as for other watches, i would just get a seiko monster. less than 500/700, and you can put the savings towards the next watch.

Kind of big but not laughable. I don't like a watch with the lugs extending beyond my wrist. The other thing that I don't care for is a large diameter watch that is also tall.

If you like the diver style, there are tons of brands out there. I'm a bit out of touch on pricing, but Steinhart, Prometheus, Squale, Hamilton and Christopher Ward all had stuff in your price range. I would probably call Chris Pappas at Wilson Watch Works, and see what he can put together for you. You can also check his website.

Just a bit too big. General guide is that the lugs shouldn't extend beyond the edges of your wrist when looking from above.

Is this too big?

Christopher ward makes nice watches in your price range and also uses swiss movements, the Trident c60 is really nice and has great reviews! Oh yeah the watch looks how it was intended, a big chunky dive watch not many wrists would make that watch look small, enjoy it!

If that was my wrist it would be too big for me to wear. Anytime the lugs extend out past the wrists it looks too large for my eye.

I have small wrists and my Sub looks about like that on me, and I think it is fine. Maybe the trend will return to smaller watches, but for now, your watch fits within my aesthetic parameters.

FYI, when I was trying on watches, I had the same concern, and was asking other customers (the dealer naturally thought it was great) as well as my wife. The consensus was that leaning towards large instead of small was better. But it is really what you are comfortable with. It is definitely not cartoonish, like some 52mms are.

Depends on what you're using it for. Is it going to be your daily wearer? Your handle is PADI_Diver; if you're an avid diver, it might both suit your personality and be practical underwater. Thing looks fairly HEAVY though.
