DDII vs Skydweller
I have been going back on forth on these two and went to look at them again today. In speaking to the AD, who I trust btw, told me that they have only sold 4 skydwellers. I was a bit taken back by this, is this model a wise model to be considering as the top dog in my Rolex collection. I do have a Patek and Breitlings etc. but in the Rolex space this purchase will be the top dog.
My other consideration is a DDII in YG or Platinum. If I go YG I am liking the silver dial, thoughts. Thoughts on the best for the platinum? |

Not really sure what you are asking?
Does it really matter that the AD has sold only 4? Are you buying a watch you really want, or a watch that you perceive needs to popular?? As for the best Platinum. I suggest the Daytona!

Agreed! The fact that the AD has sold less only adds to the appeal in my view. Anyway I this three replies on this thread is enough from me!

Ha! I've been thinking over this quandary myself for weeks. Tough one. I love rolex ever rose and have wanted a rose gold for a couple of years and my choices would be RG SkyD on leather or the DDII chocolate dial. On some days I think the SkyD is the way to go because of the incredible movement, ring command system and nice 42mm size. Then on other days I think I would miss the bracelet and that think that the SkyD may be made in SS one of these days and I could just pick it up then. I'm torn really.....

Thanks my friend. Yes well aware and curious to see it in person. My fear (judging from the pics) is that I won't like the white dial on it. The rose gold and white might look a little too feminine, but let's see. Need to see it live. All the best.

Same here and I prefer the choco DD2. If you don't like this DD2 I would get the Platinum with ice blue dial Romans. As interesting as the AC complication is, the DD will always be the King of the Rolex range for me.

I'm not a fan of the silver dial BTW. In YG I would go with the white Romans. Good luck!

I would get a platinum DDII all day long over any SkyD...That is my taste regardless of what any AD says about any watch. I haven't warmed up to SkyD yet and to me the DDII is tops! Again taste is personal so get whatever you like not what we like nor what an AD likes! If you aren't 100% sold on one then get nothing and wait until you are certain...Cheers,
PS. Thomas if you reply one more time you will equal that AD's SkyD sales.

I'd go with a Platinum DDII over a Sky Dweller.

Comes down to your choice and which sits better on your wrist both are big watches IMHO, I love classics so a DD would always be my pick in YG, but comes down to motivations, if spending $ on Platinum I would go the Daytona but has to be what you want, neither would be a first choice if you are asking from an investment point of you I suspect.

SkyD is really nice. But I would do Plat DDII concentric ice blue dial. Just an awesome great looking piece. As for YG, my favs are the white roman and black wave. Good luck!

Pt DDII for sure. It has a more classic design, a less busy dial, and it's the top Rolex dog -- if you don't count the Platona. SkD has a more interesting movement though... I just wish it had a smaller case and a cleaner dial.

I prefer the Day Date II to the Sky Dweller based on the dial and appearance. Go try them both on and see which sings to you.

I went through this over the past few months, with a gold Sub added to the mix (I want a large YG watch), and arrived at a DDII with Ivory Arabic dial (which is now on its way :). The dial was actually the toughest part of the decision. It took a while for one to speak to me.
There are two things I don't like about the Sky Dweller: 1) The asymmetrical ring for the second time zone. It just looks to me like it doesn't belong on the watch. And it stands out too much. If it had less contrast with the rest of the dial, I might like it more. 2) The Month complication is interesting, but really wouldn't serve any purpose for me - I rarely forget what month it is. Between the Date, Day, and Month features, I use the Day most, then the Date, and the Month would be a distant third. |

The SkD is nice as well. I'd much prefer to see a WG bracelet version with black dial and black ring.
