YM 16622 doesn't get respect
Hello guys, I always wondered why is that the 16622 platinum dial, doesn't get the respect it deserves. I feel like out of the sports models it just stays at the very end. is it resale value or am I missing something. BTW im thinking of pulling the trigger soon on one of these, but reviews kinda throw me off.

Why? If you like it, buy it. Its popularity compared to other models shouldn't sway your decision. Plenty of people love the YM. It's just not as popular as some of the other sports models.

Personally, I worry more about what I like (there are too many watches that I like) over things like "respect" and resale (I buy to keep).
Anyway, of all the YMs, the SS Pt dial is my favorite. |

I recently bought my wife a YM. We both like it, and could care less what others like. I gave her the option of any model/metal, and she picked the TT YM.

Don't have one, probably will never buy one but I do think it's a great looking model. If you like it that's all that matters.

I have always liked the looks of the 16622. The dial & bezel is a beautiful combination. There were always other Rolexes that I wanted, so never bought this one.
If you like it, buy it! |

Great looking watch, it's just a little too monochromatic for my taste. I think I would get tired of it very fast.

The 16622 is a stunning watch. It wears much more comfortable than any other I own, because the lugs are wrist shaped. Particularly the older types with the more coarse Platinum dial are a sparkling fest in the sun.
My favourite watch. Dull, boring ? Look at watch wallpapers.com and see the pics of Jocke. If you like it, go for it. With a small upgrade, making it a triple red even more good. You won't regret. The imo more pretty, older types can be bought for very little compared to the other sporties. |

It has all the same movement parts that a Sub has, and so, any review boils down to aesthetics, which are always subjective opinions. Always get, and wear, the watch you want; not what you think that somebody else wants..

Love the YM. Great reference and more unique than a sub or GMT IMHO.

If you like it, nothing else matters. I owned one and it was the most comfortable watch I have ever owned. I traded it for a white dial 15202 , I don't think an explanation is needed. The only thing I did not care for was, as mentioned above, that it can look a bit monochromatic at times. I want to echo the comment above about looking for the older models, early 2000's come up with the livelier dials. I could see getting another one, though the blue dial also interests me, and I'm starting to get the Daytona itch. Right now though, I'm sticking with my bluesy.

For me, it's due to the price. Add a few more...Daytona...save a couple you get sub..explorer or a gmt.

blue is a very safe 'in' colour choice for designers that stands the test of time well by most accounts. patek, blancpain, rolex, ap etc... all go with blue (and other shades of blue) to highlight their more special ed lines and it seems to work very well based on sales. just my 2. |

I have one..
And a few other Rolex in my collection. A great watch, mine is the first year of issue when it was harder to get than a Daytona... Seriously! The Germans in particular were paying big premiums on it. To my eye now the silver dial looks strangely modern / dated. I think you can wear it for business ( it's partially platinum!!) or with shorts on the beach. IMHO it is at the low end of its value cycle and it will only go up.
One other odd thing.. Mine was worn everyday for 12 years and the bezel over time takes on an odd hue. Slightly shiney in the way a vintage Sub gets that washed out grey look. |

The two main issues I have and have seen mentioned on here too are that it is too monochrome and the bezel numbers are overlarge.
For me the blue dial has solved half this problem, as it is stunning, but the bezel is still a bit of an issue for me. |

I appreciate everyone's input in this topic. I could care less about anything as long as I like it and I'm happy with it. just felt as if this model doesn't get the attention it deserves, and is always at the end of the list when it come to sports models.

Buy what you like and enjoy it. Don't bother if it's popular or liked by others.... you'll be wearing the watch.
Happy hunting! |

I agree with everyone that you should buy it because you like it not what others say. When it's on your wrist, you are the main one that's going to see it so as long as you like what you see, that's all that matters. I buy to keep so resale is not one of the motivators to make me purchase a watch. I have a friend who purchased the platinum dial model and his watch looks stunning IMO!!!

It's all a matter of personal taste.
The YM used to be my least favorite Rolex, but then the Sky Dweller took that "honor". Yet, there are plenty of people who love both of them. That's why Rolex offers more than one model...

I really like the embossed details on the bezel (insert). That is however not enough to make me want to buy it.

I think the TT Sub gives it tough competition for those in the market for a watch with a diver bezel and some precious metal. Aside from subjective preference on looks, the 116613 has a better clasp and better bezel scratch resistance.

I think it's a beautiful watch and I certainly respect it.
I don't have much use for one now that I own a Sub, which for my purposes is enough. I have noticed in the past that used Yachtmasters in good shape are mighty tempting price-wise.
