Need $$ Advice Purchasing 16710 GMTII
Gents-
After careful consideration of all of your expert advice from a tread earlier in the week I have decided that I am going to soon be a proud new owner of a GMTII 16710. I have settled on this watch with the following criteria: SS GMTII 16710 Lug Holes! SELs Oyster w. minimal stretch Orginial Papers Professionally polished OK Documented service history. Now that I have been educated on what watch I would like- its now a price question that I am currently grappling with. I have made contact to purchase a GMT that meets this criteria from a trusted source- not a pawn shop- in Atlanta, GA. The watch currently for sale is an A-Series w. SELs and has all original documentation including correspondence with the original Rolex dealer. It is in excellent condition- although polished, has minimal stretch in the oyster bracelet and has been recently serviced- although not RSC. If there are any shortcomings the original bezel is in need of replacement and there is a small nick on the sapphire only visible via jewelers loupe. The asking: $5400. I have scrolled the FS section here on TRF and it has been a bit difficult to get an accurate gauge on what is a "fair" price for a watch that meets this criteria. To be transparent- the $5400 includes shipping and an allowance for me to purchase via my AMEX. So what do you all think? Is this fair or should I continue to look elsewhere? Whats fair anyways? Am I missing any other considerations?? Thanks again for your generous thoughts! |

I recently sold a mint GMT Master II 16710 with all boxes, papers and a second pepsi bezel (came with black) for $4600. I would say that's on the low end of the range but I was after a fast sale. I would say $4500-5200 is about the range on these at the moment.

sennheiserz what was the serial on your GMT- also, why did you sell at the lower end of the range? BTW- you don't have a twin GMT you would like to unload by any chance?

Do you mean the bezel or insert needs replacing? And why?

The bezel doesn't necessarily need replacing- just has some wear.
If the ask is 5400- is this in the range?? Thanks! |

Here is a another question for you Adam-
I know in the past you have posted a question here on TRF regarding the "A-Series" Vintage 99-00 GMTII being a watch that was officially pre-SEL but had late models that came with an original SEL package... One of my main goals was to get a Lugged SEL GMT- does this series not fit the bill since its "unofficial" or is it just as good to move ahead with this watch given the originally outfitting? Also were there any case modifications Rolex made post A-Series for the following Lugged SEL GMT's that were produced until 2004? Again, many thanks! |

A series was not officially anything. Its just that SELs were added around the late A serial period, not P serial, as I thought back then.

Late A to early/mid Y is the serial range you want.

Mine is a Y. You'll love it. Lugs and SELs.

Every time I see a Pepsi, my heart thumps.
I don't regret getting the BLNR. There are many reasons why the BLNR is a winner, but I know that a Pepsi is in my future, maybe a year from now.
