Platinum Sub?
Anyone think Rolex will eventually follow up their stunning Platona with a Platinum Sub? If so, we can assume the dial with be glacier blue, but what about the Cerachrom Bezel insert? I doubt if they would go with the Chestnut. Maybe black or some sort of dark blue....

It would be anyone's guess, but it sounds feasible enough to me for it to happen one day.

True, just contemplation. I'm bored and was daydreaming.....
After trying on the Platona, I am convinced Platinum Rolexes are the epitome of the sports watch, and the Sub is begging to be platinized. |

The platinum GMT would make more sense
As it'll be more useful than a diver using a pt (Yes I know not everyone dives with submariners me among them) I can see pt gmts out selling pt sub's (more business orientated) And I'm a sub fan, I'd def would want one And with the dual tone bezel I can see Rolex become creative for a pt edition in colors |

I think this is a safe bet.
Rather than exotic or what may perhaps be described as trendy/seasonal colors (e.g., ice, chestnut, etc) dials and bezels for platinum or gold subs, I think it would be wonderful to see an offering in white gold, or in platinum that is otherwise classic - black dial, black bezel, no date. If needing to subtly differentiate the product: a red-depth, big crown, no-date platinum Sub. |

If they came out with a platinum sub with a dark blue bezel and dial it would do really well.

For me id just want no date black dial GMT in platinum, understated and classic, would almost look normal to mere mortals. But to the connoisseurs among us.. Well they'd know what a f*ck off piece it was, which is how I prefer it.

Given recent releases it seems only a matter of time that both the Sub and the GMT will get platted.

Slap in the face and proof Rolex had gone bonkers, if that travesty materializes.

Platmariner - why not?
They already make it in WG and YG No less sense than any other precious metal watch. After all, Rolex is primarily in the luxury/jewellery business

That is why I think Platinum will be next, following the WG by a number of years. With the Pepsi just now coming out in WG, I think that will be at least five years before a Platinum GMT arrives.
Maybe when the James Bond movie franchise is refreshed and Daniel Craig is replaced by another Brit, maybe the ubiquitous Benedict Cumberbatch, Rolex will wrest the product placement rights from Omega. And debut the Platmariner. Yes, I have an overactive imagination ![]() |

Most of us can't even affort the WG Sub so I don't see the point of the need for a platinium Sub.

Here is how I would answer that: I cannot afford a Patek minute repeater but I would hope Patek continues to make them. I don't have to own a watch to admire it and desire it. It gives me something to dream about, and what is life without our dreams?
But I understand your sentiment and respect it. |

Don't know how platinum would do as a dive watch, where SS and gold works fine diving in fresh or salt water. Contrary to all the thoughts of individuals that buy dive watches and don't dive, Rolex still makes these things functional first, even in gold.
