Pictures of my Red Submariner...
I bought this watch used in the early 1980's. I've worn it pretty much every day since owning it (except during Air Force basic training, and my dad wore it for those couple of months).
I had RGM overhaul it late last year (didn't get it back until February of this year)... and they did a really good job. It's literally running like a quartz, no gain, no loss for the last 10 days or so. It initially did lose 6 seconds a day after it first came back from RGM, but they advised to let it settle in for 6 to 8 weeks before having it re-regulated. Fortunately that advice was good, as it's now running perfectly. I think that's pretty amazing for not only a 35 year old watch, but a 35 year old watch that's been in constant use for that length of time (the previous owner obviously used it as well, because it was well "patina'd" when I got it). :) I believe this watch is a 1973 model, because that's what Leo Hamel in San Diego (the place where I bought the watch from) told me. The SN is 29392XX. Can anyone give me the date of manufacture for that SN? Anyway, someone in another thread asked for pictures, so here's about all my little Kodak CD33 and a 2.5X loupe held to the lens can come up with. You will note that I've put it on a nice leather strap for now, this because I really need to have the small link (where the green toothpick is pointing in the photo) replaced. It's worn so badly I'm afraid it's going to split and come loose. This is a 93150 bracelet, with 580 end links. Can someone recommend a place that will fix this bracelet for me? I'd like to have it thoroughly checked over, so I can put it back on the watch. (But it does look pretty snappy with this leather strap, I think...)... :) Dan |

I just found a link and checked the manufacture date of my watch... looks like 1969 to 1970. I reckon Leo Hamel was wrong... funny, I've called it a 1973 all these years.

sweet looking watch you have there,looks great with the leather strap.i would send it to one of the rsc's for service work on the bracelet.the only downside is that you have to send the whole watch,they won't accept just the bracelet.

hey dan: i'm advocating for a TRF get-together (some time or other), in Lancaster, Pa. area to see RGM, National Watch and Clock Museum is in Columbia(right next to Lancster)and the Rolex School(Lititz, Pa.), all within 20 miles of one another. RGM is in Mt. Joy, National Watch & Clock Museum(AMAZING place, with extraordinary clocks and watches from across the world, with a fantastic watch library), and the Rolex School(underwritten by Rolex to the tune of $1Million);
looks like RGM did a wonderful job on your watch....they show up at NAWCC shows and hawk their cool watches at discounted prices from their show room. excellent pics, excellent watch! best, dan |

Great looking watch..
I'm surprised that the Service didn't take care of the bracelet at the same time.. 93150's can still be had, new I believe....

I went over to ebay and you're right, you can still find 93150's... but they cost more than I gave for the watch when I bought it! :( One of the bracelets for sale there says it has the dive suit extension marked "patented", and they say it's rare... my bracelet has that same dive suit extender link marked "patented," FWIW... Maybe I'll find a watchmaker that can duplicate that worn link for me... Dan |

Lovely Red Sub Dan.
I agree with comment above. Buy a new 93150 bracelet from Rolex for around US$1,000, however, you will have to take the whole watch into Rolex to have it fitted. They will not just sell you a bracelet without seeing the watch. Just remember to take the original one off first, or else Rolex will insist on taking the old one. John. |

An awesome watch! My grail watch as a matter of fact. You mention you are from southwest Va. Do you mind if I ask where? I went to H.S in Independence which is not far from Hillsville and Galax.

No kidding. Small world. When I first moved to the U.S. as a kid I remember my cousins from DC telling me when you see the big pencil you are not too far from where my Grandparents were living at the time. I still see it when I travel down to see my folks.
