1st Rolex purchase and torn on what to get

Hello,

I am planning on purchasing my first Rolex. I already have a two tone Date that my dad gave me. Anyway, at first I had my heart set on the green submariner. It is just a beautiful watch, but then I realized that in regards to function, I won't be diving any time soon. Also the Submariner seems to be so common lately. So I looked at the GMT II and I like it as well. The issue with that is I have friends that have that watch (so I don't want to look like a copy cat). But it has the time zone function that I like and know I would use. So I was checking out the Explorer II. But I don't know if it has the "pop" factor as the other watches. What are your thoughts? Which one holds it value more?

Thanks!
John

Spot on. Never buy based on what others might think. Way to much money to not have something that's special to you.

Wow I haven't seen an Explorer with a blue face before. Now that looks really good! I will have to check it out to see if it is in the stores here in Chicago. I don't see it on the Rolex website. BTW what is the GMT II BLNR (is that the Black and Blue bezel?)

Keep in mind the blue dial is a Yacht-Master. Never mind, didn't see that you bought the BLNR. Congrats!

John welcome to the forum.
Have you thought about a GMT II BLNR. It would be different from your friends and it is one of the most beautiful pieces out there. The bezel has a Chameleon effect depending on the light and the angle

I'm obviously biased.... but if you are worried about pop factor adding an orange rubber b to an EXP II may fix the issue. =) Either way they are all amazing watches. Wish you the best of luck.

And what do you look like?

To OP: It doesn't matter if you won't be diving, traveling around the world, or climbing mountains anytime soon. Just get the watch that you like and forget what anyone else thinks.

GL!

Haha! Good one Tom. That was what a manager at work told me, why wear a Yachtmaster when you dont have a Yacht..

To the OP, get what you like and ignore what others think. At the end of the day, you will be the one paying for it and wearing the watch.

What about the BLNR? You'll then have your GMT, with a pop of color.

Tell me again what's wrong with the green Sub? You had your heart set on it.
You don't need to be a diver. You can use the bezel for timing a myriad of things (do a search). Yes, the Sub is the favorite of many, and one of the most widely copied designs in the watch world. If you're looking for exclusivity, you might consider a brand that does not make one million watches a year.
I say get the green Sub.

Agreed, if you buy something else you'll most likely regret it in 6 months. Green Sub is fantastic.

Welcome to the forum.

Buy what you really want. The Sub is just a tough as nails watch regardless if you dive with it. All are common so if you want a more rare watch, look at another brand of watch.

Most of the Sub owners don't dive. Showering or taking a swim in the pool or sea, that's it.

And the GMT is as common as the Sub and EXP.

No offense but that's how it is.

So like other said. Try them on and buy which one that sings the best to you. Don't buy a watch because of others might think. It's your watch, it's your Rolex

Enjoy it

You really can't go wrong. Try them all on and buy what you like best. There's a reason why so many people have Subs and GMTs, including myself. They're damn near perfect in every regard.

The best advice is always the simplest - already been mentioned which is go into an AD with a good selection and you will fall in love with one of the watches, guaranteed. :)

Several times i've gone into an AD ready to buy the watch i researched and ended up with a different one

good luck and enjoy

Try not to worry about what others think, present forum excluded ofc, ha!, as a luxury watch is a big purchase and really should come down to what you really like and want.

As said look at the BLNR and blue YM, both seem to suit your thinking.

Buy the watch you like. Forget what other have your can't be with them 24/7 (unless you are a conjoined twin) but your watch can be.

BNLR is a great choice for something classic but different.

YM is also good. Both have PCL's so can look dress as well as sporty.

I would opt for one of those two.
