Icon5 BASEL: The Rolex "100th" Anniversary? Yes? No? Didn't it pass already????

can someone shed some light on the significance of the "100th" Anni?

there was another thread on Basel 2015 predictions and having gone through the rolex website, google, wiki etc... i think the "100th" is just the cosc anni and not the rolex brand or founding anni?

anyone have some insight on this?

my thought exactly. so its not "rolex's 100th" founding. its actually the rolex cosc cert anni. like maytag getting the good housekeeping seal.

rolex also distances itself somewhat from cosc by using the superlative chronomtre officially certified (pfew) moniker anyway.

rolex may not make too much of a deal with it since today even $50 watches can be cosc. just ask patek what they think of cosc.

From here : http://rolexblog.blogspot.fr/search/label/Hans Wilsdorf Collection

Quote:
Despite the fact Hans Wilsdorf had registered the Rolex trademark in 1908, he continued using the Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd. name in England, and it is very likely he formally changed the name to The Rolex Watch Company Ltd. in 1915 in response to the English conflict with the Germans. In other words, the name "Wilsdorf" was clearly German, and since England was at war with Germany, German names were frowned upon.

So yes, 2015 is the 100th bd of Rolex.

First Wilsdorf then the Saxe Coburg Gothas, Rolex leading the way as usual.

So yes, 2015 is the 100th bd of Rolex.

This. And let the predictions begin!

I sense a Masterpiece limited edition commemorative Rolex - limited to 100 pieces. Each with Tri-color Gold. Plus 100 diamonds distributed throughout the dial, bezel, lugs etc.

MSRP? What else? $100K

That actually sounds like a bargain for what you're getting.

. . .

COSC wasn't formed until 1973 so there's a long time before there is a 100 anything with COSC..

It was me who mentioned the 100th anniversary in the 2015 predictions thread. Although already registered, 1915 was the year W&D officially changed its name to The Rolex Watch Co. Ltd.

They should make a 100 anniversary edition that 10k could buy instead of 75+k. they would sell more and allow more to enjoy the event than just a few. That or several versions of something special allowing all to enjoy it.
