5205G for me...

Mrs Sandrine Stern was very proud of this particular watch when we visited Patek in Geneva. Well, I am even more proud to own such a beautiful piece. Strangely, G is now less popular here than R, but in some time, I am sure it will all even out. What I appreciate with G is the two tone dial, which is a special touch. Also, the back-grey version has the matching strap (black leather, grey stitching, just so cool!)

Love that dial/case combo. That would be my choice!

I actually sold my 5205G-010 last December, bought the 5205R in April and just sold it in September to buy another 5205G-010 which is incoming on Wednesday. I'm more excited to get this watch back than any other purchase I've made. The dial speaks to me better than the R did.

Being from New Zealand, I can appreciate that. Probably one of the few sports we can beat the U.S. at every time!

Saw them in London at Twickenham a few years back. Man-handled the English. Huge fan of the All-Blacks

Can you please elaborate? Pros/cons. Pluses/minus. I'm very interested in the 5205. I'm leaning towards the G over the black R, but resale of the former worries me.

I wouldn't worry about resale. They'll both even out in a couple years. The 5205R trades for a little more at the moment because it's brand new and harder to get it, but as availability increases they should equal out. I sold the 5205R because it lacked the contrast I wanted and doesn't appeal to me in sunlight. I'm also 30 years old and the watch felt a little grandpa-ish to me, whereas the 5205G has a sportier, more balanced dial, in my opinion.
