Stupid question from the newbie!

Ok, I give up, what's the proper meaning of the "WIS" abbreviation?

WIS = Watch Idiot Savant.

1.A person self trained to sleep in 5 positions while wearing his/her COSC certified chronometer in bed.

2.A person who opens the back of a new Patek on the first day of acquisition and hand winds the rotor to tighten up the main spring.

3. A person who takes his 2000 meter water proof Rolex SD off from the wrist. And puts it into the deepest pocket,and three plastic bags before walking into a rain storm without any rain gear on.

4.A person who waits every 5 minute in front of his radio controlled clock in order to adjust all his/her 14 mechanical watches to the accuracy within -2/+2 seconds per 24 hours.

5. A person who can memorises all serial numbers of the Rolex watches made in the past 60 years but keeps forgetting the wifes wedding anniversary.

6. A person who washes his/her watch in luxury shampoo,polishes with specially bought cloth.Then rests it on another specially bought cloth just encase they scratch the stainless steel.

And reading the many many posts on TRF we sure now have quite a few above.

Before finding out what WIS is supposed to mean I thought it was "watch in safe," referring to someone who buys one or more watches to keep pristine in storage.

Pretty sure this is a WIS move. I've got this jacket that I really love to wear, but there is a metal snap on the inside that is in perfect watch scratching position. I asked my dry cleaner to sew a soft patch over the button. It's perfect now...

You haven't seen mine. To trump the minor OCD behavioral deviances we've seen so far, peruse my WIS of the Year submission. These are some screen shots of a program I wrote to keep track of the regulation of my watches. I don't show this to my normal friends, as they would probably have me committed, but I'll wager I'll get a hesitant nod from a few here. This would translate as "He's crazy but I kind of understand." Don't have me committed, as I'm sane...honest. Now, where's my Timegrapher?

All seriousness aside, it's a challenge and helps keep my brain working in retirement.

You have a good memory. It's in Foxpro, the DOS version ca. ~1990. For all you youngsters, computers did exist back then. It's the only programming language I know, it works very well for its intended purpose, brings back fond memories of the DOS days , and doing this type of thing keeps me off the street. This is only one program among others not related to watches.

Yes, I have fond (and otherwise!) memories of C and x86 assembly language programming on PC's in the 80's and even into the early 90's.
