15400 As Daily & Only Driver

Is it inconceivable to wear the 15400 as a daily driver, but as ones only timepiece? Naturally, it couldn't be worn ALL the time, but I'm flirting with this idea a bit. Unlike many others, I'd like to be of the "1 watch for all things" camp...maybe 2. Feedback appreciated.

Are you hard on your watches in general? I.e . Do they get banged up easily?

If so, your 15400 will show wear / scratches on the bezel surface and maybe a sharp corner or two.

I would not...APs in general are highly polished/detailed so they also pick up marks a bit more than say, a Rolex.

I wear a Sub daily and honestly can't think of a better all-around watch.

Depends how hard you are on your watches. In general I am a rose gold fan, but my 15400st with black face is the exception and certainly dresses up/down as well as any watch I can think of - great watch with a suit or in gym shorts. In fact to some extent it is my "beater" watch and has been on ski vacations, beach vacations, etc. Haven't dinged mine up in the first year, though I don't wear it daily.

Thanks, gentlemen! I wouldn't say that I'm hard on my watch (116710) but I haven't had it for very long. There are definitely times that I wouldn't wear it (manual labor, maybe swimming, etc). I'm contemplating keeping the 116710 for more rugged activities and have the 15400 as a dressier piece for less rugged activities. Or, I had thought of (re)purchasing a Sub as more beater piece, and wear the 15400 for more formal occasions. Thoughts?

I wouldn't wear mine as a one and only daily. I would pick something more sturdy like a Sub or older GMT - no PCL's.

That's a good combo AP 15400 + Rolex of your preference
Sub is better suited for all around activities than the GMT, but if you travel a lot and find the complication handy then keep it.

I wore my white dial daily for a while. It can definitely withstand the abuse, I just got tired of the look.

If you are careful, it is a very comfortable and gorgeous watch.

Maybe if one lives in Downton Abbey what what, but as the guys say it is best to have another watch for rugged activities.

I think you need a Rolex to use in sports situations, having just this one will risk it getting serious scratchs or bumps, I went down to 3, Patek 5712, Daytona 116515, and for sports and other things Sub LV, so I like the less watches idea but this as the only one not really...

Pete you know how I feel about this, but don't go run off and sell that gmt2c just yet.

Nah, this one isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I'm just thinking a year out because, hell, what else do I have to think about?

Embrace the wear and tear, in the end who cares and you'll have enjoyed it to the fullest.

Love this forum. Thanks for all of the feedback, gentlemen!

As much as I'd like to be of the 'one and only philosophy', I agree, it's a bit hard to pull off. A Rolex + RO combination, however, does sound feasible.

another option as well is to get a nice strap conversion for the 15400. Not as easily swappable as like a panerai or even a rolex, but I find a strap really changes the look of an RO and a nice hornback makes it look much more casual than the bracelet.

Not my picture or a 15400, obviously, but just as an example:

If you like it and you want to wear it every day, then go for it. Who cares what a bunch of watch geeks have to say? It's your money, your watch, and your wrist.

I loved my 15400 but honestly it was too delicate for me so I traded for an AP FC diver. Best

Are you generally tough on your watches, or put them in tough situations, or was this normal wear?

I'm not the most gentle person out. I work in an office but am on the road a lot, etc. I didn't baby my 15400 but wasn't hard on it either. The bracelet I found just really delicate. I miss it from time to time I have to say!

Funny, this is exactly what I have been thinking lately. I really love the brand though and have also thought about the FC Diver for something different.

I would miss this face though!

Thank you mrlongisland for starting this thread and everyone for their replies. This situation is similar to my own. I mostly wear a Sub (11610ln), but was looking to compliment this with a 15400. I was worried though, as I have been told they are scratch magnets.

00pumpkin, was the issue that you were noticing scratches much more so than other timepieces (e.g., Rolex Sub/GMT/Explorer)?

Because of the superb finishing on the AP, scratches seem to stand out more vs. my Rolex models. My AP is actually in pristine shape because it doesn't see as much wrist time (shared with 2 others) and I'm super careful with it.
