It is a great device. I opted for the Ipod Touch 16GB myself as I already have a phone plan. Congrats!! It is a very solid feeling piece of equipment.

There are about 4 more phones on the coming market to compete with the iphone and they look much nicer. They will already be 3G and costs less, so I would wait. Also I just got my first Motorola Razor V3M and absolutely love it! Still a top seller on the market.

I have had my iPhone since before it hit the market, and I had zero problems with it.
It is a fantastic device, and the best phone I ever had. I have around 400 phones and I just can't put that iPhone down. For work, nothing beats the BlackBerry 8820 but for play... iPhone is king. The current one has been discontinued about 2 weeks ago or so and the inventory is now being depleted. As far as better looking phones... not in my opinion. I've been working in the wireless industry for 12 years and I have yet to hold a phone that looks and feels better than the iPhone.

Will our current edge iphones be able to convert to the 3G?

I think that they will use some kind of super technology again for battery efficiency

As opposed to fake 3G like Sprint and Verizon?
![]() ![]() It shouldn't do much to the battery life. 3G technology has come a long way in one year, more than compensating for the stand still in battery advancements. Take the BlackJack vs BlackJack II. I have both of them, and while the battery in the BJ II is only minimally larger, it more than quadrupled the real world battery life of the original BJ. My sources tell me that it will have the ability to disable 3G via a software switch, and that the phone will be smart enough to tell the difference between web surfing/You Tube and emails, visual voicemail, weather updates, etc and therefore capable of picking the more economical GPRS/EDGE connection if only small amounts of data are being moved. There is also a big chance that it will use GSM for voice and for stand by instead of UMTS. This is the main reason why UMTS drains the battery: On a GSM architecture, the phone is always in a dormant state and it is being awaken by the Mobile Switching Center when a call or a message comes in. Each GMS device has 7 channels assigned to it while on the network and connected to a tower. 3 handle data, 3 handle voice, and 1 is called a Paging Channel. Only one type can be open at once. The paging channel is what the MSC uses to wake up the phone. On the UMTS architecture the mobile terminal is always awake and always looking to intercept incoming communications. That particular process, while speeding things up considerably, takes a huge toll on the battery life. UMTS and it's HSDPA/HSUPA data counterpart does not rely on channels. All original channels are open at all times, generating what is basically a very wide lane, or broadband, which is open for any type of communication. Voice, Data, OR simultaneous voice and data. In other words the ability to browse the web while on a phone call. I think I gave way too much information here. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry if I bored u haha. ![]()

iphones are cool, but I'm going to wait even longer for more memory, etc. $499 plus the +59 per month contract for two years is not for me right now. The iTouch looks interesting, but my current ipod is still running strong.

Congrats Frostie! I really like my iphone. Only complaint is that the speaker sucks! I'm just used to my former Motorola Nextel. The walkie talkie's loud!

Yes I do, in fact I have seen their headquarters in person. Cupertino is about 40 or so miles from San Francisco. If you come here, you'll see almost everyone here with an Apple laptop ![]()

Been there for work last spring when we were working on iPhone 1.0. They gave me this T Shirt that is all black and it says "I visited the mothership." People always ask me if it is a cult thing! LMAO. ![]() ![]() And on the back it has a tiny Apple logo. ![]()

As a phone next to the ear it's great. But on speakerphone, It could e louder. My assumptions are from my former Nextel which had PTT (walkie talkie). The walkie talkie could wake a neighborhood. Part of it too is my Otterbox Defender case (otterbox.com) all that plastic and rubber mute the speaker a bit. It's louder without the case. But my old Nextel is nothing compared to the features of the iPhone. I especially like the web features. I use the email/web feature more than the phone. I really rack up the internet usage. EDGE is pretty good in Hawaii. It's not broadband, but I have no problems surfing. Plus the cable company that provide our service has wireless hotspot all over the island. Anyway. Congrats. Aloha! |

iPhones are cool and great for personal use, but I would not recommend one for business at least until the next version when it will work properly with MS Exchange.
My biggest issue is the fact that you can't easily change the battery yourself. It was designed not to be replaced by consumers. If your battery starts dying, you will have to send it in to have the battery replace. I don't like the idea of not having my phone for a few days. |
