Next watch SubC v. SD4k

I know there are a lot of threads asking for help regarding what next watch should someone get so I hope to steer slightly away from that with this thread. Although I am looking for another watch, I wanted to ask everyone's opinions regarding the SubC v. SD4k. Which one would you prefer and why?

Not really in the market for either one, but I think I would go sub if facing that decision today. (Stress the word "think"). Like the cleaner bezel, cyclops is helping for seeing the date, and probably save around 2k ish.

If you can live with the cyclops save money and go for the SubC Date
If you can live without the date save more money and go for the SubC No date
If you can't live without the date but hate the cyclops then go for the SD4000

+ 1

If you can't live without the date but hate the cyclops then go for SubC Date and remove the cyclops and save $2k from SD4k

Can you still remove the cyclops on the newer models? I know you could do it on the non-ceramic models _ they were just glued on. But I didn't know you could still easily remove the cyclops.

Yes they can be removed the same however you will be left with the shadow of the AR under the crystal, the only seemless way of doing it is fitting the 114060 crystal.

SD4000 all day long. Case looks much better than the Sub-C

What are you looking to do with the watch? A Sub (without date) is always good to have; and once a watch has the date the cyclops is useful if you don't mind it. So, no SD unless the depth of your dives absolutely requires it.

People get the Sub for the look and those who like identity like the cyclops so they can wear their shirtsleeves up slightly..

Those who are a bit more hard-core and may actually dive or boat on occasion may lean towards the slightly more robust SD..

(The nightclub crowd likes the more blingy GMT's)

but they all look the same from across the room..

i prefer the sub due to the maxi case. i have large big wrists so it suites me better.

Sub. Not sure about the matte dial, extra thickness and busy bezel on the SD-C.

Sub for me. Compared with the SDc I prefer the proportions, gloss dial, bezel, and cyclops. The lower price doesn't hurt either. The sub is the quintessential Rolex! Can't go wrong with either choice though

If cost is a variable then you should definitely lean towards the SubC. For a price tag that's about $3k less it's a great watch that aesthetically looks very similar to the SD4000. If price doesn't matter then I would go SD4000. I love the thinner lugs, thicker case and have grown to like the fully graduated bezel. Also, there something really cool about the gas release valve, I will never get to use it but it makes the watch unique. I am biased however because I just received my SD4000 and think it may be my favorite Rolex I've ever owned.

If you don't KNOW which one you want then logic dictates you buy the cheapest one.

Seems as if many more people own Subs than SD's, but SD owners, on the forum at least, really, really love their SD, me included. The SS Daytona has been my dream watch since I was 13 but it struggles for wrist time against the SD.

Ultimately, I went with SubC, because I felt SDc was a little too thick for my liking.

I originally was planning to buy another crystal without the cyclops and get it installed, but the cyclops really grew on me. I'm not getting any younger, and its nice to be able to see the date.
