Am I Nuts?!
Having been a somewhat avid collector for the last eight years, I'm thinking about consolidating my collection for a single piece. Why? I don't know exactly, other than that I'm just not that into my usual go-to pieces, or watches in general. That being said, having just purchased my first Rolex over the summer, I've fallen in love with the brand. I figure if I have one really great watch that I can wear everyday, I'll be satisfied (at least for a while).
Attached is a pic of my current collection, and the piece I'm interested in. Is it over the top? Of course! But I love it, and think it would be fine for work (I'm an attorney), as well as with jeans Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |

I think it's awesome.
I don't typically like stones on a watch, but I love everything about a dd2. And that does look awesome. Being an attorney, I think it shows you are damned good. And it will dress down just fine in jeans. Rock on. IMHO.

Well, I like your more diversified current collection. Maybe you are just a little bored. As a fellow attorney, I think your new choice is a little over the top (sorry-you asked).
How about another watch that is different? JLC Reverso? Lange? Patek? |

I would flip all for the DD (minus stones) and keep the VC to have a nice SS and full gold, but that's me... Good luck with your decision!

RG DDII is a magnificent watch. I would heartily recommend one. I liked the chocolate dial best.

AK797's watch is stunning. I think it looks good without the jewels.

Really appreciate all the comments thus far! Also, when I say the DDII is "over the top," I'm also thinking about how it would look, and potentially the negative attention it might garner, on my 36-year old wrist. That being said, I wear what I like, and I like this one a lot!

Nothing over the top about a YG DD2... Do it....but why sell everything? Hang on to a couple anyways for those more casual lazy days! |

in the same paragraph you are asking how it would look and the negative attention it might garner, and that you also wear what you like. truth is, it will garner negative attention. Rolex's in general have the tendency to do that. add gold to it, and then add some stones. yes, people will create opinions based on how you present yourself. but you said it yourself, you like it a lot and you wear what you like. i still say go ahead and get it.

Have you looked at Langes? Not blingy, no one knows what they are, expertly made, the height of horology. I'm a big Rolex fan, but Lange is where I'd go if I was going all in.

I have, and although Langes are at the pinnacle, there's something about the heft, and presence, of a solid gold Rolex. That being said, I know what you mean about flying under the radar, so to speak. That's what I love about my VC Overseas.

The DD 2 is an awesome choice. Cannot go wrong with that one. Perfect with a suit and works very well with casual wear. Every now and then, I contemplate on thinning down my collection to reflect three or four pieces only. A Day-Date would definitely be one for me if that were the case.

Do what you feel. That's the awesome thing about watches. I'm new to the Rolex brand and now I am completely addicted. I bought my first one in 2012 / sub 116610LN BNIB from AD (for the experience), thinking it would be my one tool watch for the rest of my life...LMAO, not even close. 2 years and a few more watches later...still evolving my collection. Buying and sometimes trading. The evolution is the fun part. I say go for it, if that's what makes you happy. That's an awesome watch, now I'm thinking...

Do it man, DDII is an epic piece.. Nothing like the feeling of solid 18ct Rolex gold on the wrist

I can imagine owning a true grail, and wanting to wear it all the time (at least for a year or so) but after a while I think I'd be looking for some variety.
Put the others in the safe and get the grail.

As much as I love the DDII it couldn't be my only watch. Maybe that and your PAM 111!

I love the diversity of your current collection. If you do consolidate, I'd suggest keeping the VC overseas and getting the DDII, but maybe the chocolate dial with the roman numerals shown earlier.

I'm 30. See my signature for my current rotation. Nothing bothers me about it. I quite like pissing off older people that don't understand how I got them.
I just don't wear them to work...only my stainless Patek or my DJII go there. |
