From Rolex to AP

Just looking for opinions from the TRF family....

How many here have gone from owning Rolexes to AP.

If so do your Rolexes ever get wrist time? Whats the split?

Has anyone just completely stopped with Rolex?

I am taking the plunge and am wondering what I am getting myself into!

I was a Rolex/Omega guy for years. Tried on the 15300 many times and when that was discontinued I did the same with the 15400. Always stuck with Rolex until I purchased a Jumbo 15202 from DavidSW a week or so back. I am amazed with the watch and could not be happier. I will always keep at least one Rolex but AP is a different ball game IMHO. Either way congrats in advance!

I sold a Sea Dweller and Omega GMT and added a little cash about a year ago to move up to the Royal Oak and I have never looked back.

I have owned many Rolexes and a couple of APs.

I can tell you that the Rolex wins for comfort and sturdiness. But the AP wins in other regards.

It's hard to be Rolex-less...

I have Rolex, PP and now AP, love them all equally, rotate them weekly. Will take time to get used to the AP, it is big and relatively shiny vs rest of the family. Cant see why owning an AP should cause you to exit your Rolex, it does not for me.

FYI the rotor sound on the AP is not as nice in my opinion as the Rolex or PP, but the finishing detail, see through caseback etc on the AP is first rate.

Don't let others tell you that once you get into AP, you will never wear your Rolex.
At least for me this is not true. My 15400 gets no more wrist time than my Rolex's. I just got the ceramic diver so naturally it's been on my wrist. But after the honeymoon period is over it will fit into the rotation. I am now thinking to sell the 15400 and couple steel Rolex's to fund a full gold Rolex.

Thing is, this (in bold), will not be a problem to him. He won't really have much of that itch left to scratch anyway since he's got loads of full gold rolex

Extremely extensive collection.. he's already acquired.
Really, next stop is the AP and PP salons if im honest...
Oh, VC too if I may add... and keep those rolex or give them away to family members

Agree with this too. For me now it is mainly all gold Rolex and steel AP and PP.

I have both the AP and Rolex.

They get equal time on my wrist but I always seem to be putting up the AP to trade, or sell....

The thought of selling my RG Skydweller never crosses my mind.

I used to collected Rolex watches until I moved to RM, Patek and AP. Sold all the rolex watches, and now keep one Rolex for mostly daily wear.

In the end, only you have the power to decide what watch you are going to wear on any given day. It's nice to know how the rest of the forum do it. But, It will be what you are doing that day and what you are wearing that day that will ultimately make up your mind as to which watch to wear. I feel that any brand can coexist in a rotation if the owner feels like buying/keeping it. I like most will always keep a Rolex as a do everything watch and I also will alway keep a beater, for when I know my watch stands a high chance of getting damaged from the activity I am doing.

I traded my Rolexes for an AP ROO. Do I enjoy my new piece? Yes. Do I miss my Rolexes? More than you could ever know.

I will buy a Submariner in the next two months. Never ever sell a Submariner!!!!!!!

Rolex will always have a place in my collection and get the most wear.
I was almost exclusively AP for a while but always come back around to Rolex.
Having said that, I do plan on getting the new Jumbo at some point..

I am back to one Rolex, my rather humble DJ2, which is still my most loved watch in my collection, regardless I own 3 APs and many other nice watches.

Don't have any AP but have a PP and 2 Rolex, and my PP gets 70% wrist time, it's just incredibly comfortable compared to the Rolexes, so I wear it more often

I didn't necessarily go from one to another, just added an AP to my collection. I love Rolex too much to leave the brand. Why not just try one out and see how you like it? For a first AP I would suggest a RO, ROC or Diver.

I also started in Rolex. Had Sub, Pepsi GMT, and Daytona. Love AP so typically wear that on nights/weekends, so ended up selling the Rolexes and just keeping the Sub for a daily.

Rolex is great for what they are, put them on, and forget. Like cars, I suppose you can say it's best to drive the BMW on weekdays and only take out the Ferrari on weekends =)

LOVE my AP's, but my Rolexes (Sub Date and SS Daytoan), still get plenty of wear. In fact I am wearing my Daytona now
