Opinions on a friends new SD purchase

A friend purchased a SD today and I have been advised on another forum it's badly over polished. I do not think the photos help, however he was advised it has only been polished once while in with rolex for a service in 2011.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated until I can upload more images tomorrow. He does have a 7 day return period.

Here is the watch in question:

You've put a several SDs up for opinion recently. Is this your purchase?

So...wouldn't the answer be NO?

"so, I have this FRIEND that says he's got some itching down low..."

anyways, the watch looked fine.

Well that watch was far from fine, totally over polished, that's for you opinion!

Definitely overpolished.... I would get a refund since in this state it doesn't leave a lot of metal on the lugs for a future touch up.

So do Rolex always over Polish when they service?

That watch looks like it has been polished a few times or maybe the watch had a deep ding that required so much metal removal.

We'll if that's the case it will be returned, I personally think it's impossible to tell from the photos, guess tomorrow we will see and if it's over polished it will be returned.

Can I ask you exactly how you come to this opinion, what's so obvious?

Yes, I am buying a SDc and he has purchased the said SD non ceramic. I only ask on his behalf about the watch looking over polished, to me it looks fine, however I guess tomorrow will tell when he receives it.

The 16600 Seadweller is a classic compared to the SDC and if I'm honest I always end up wearing my 16600 instead of my ceramic Dweller

He has just called around with the watch, it does look very polished on the lugs to me.

Any opinions?

If he is happy, then I don't see a problem.

There's 50 year old Rolex watches less polished that this though.

Stay off the cape-cod gentlemen!!!

Not the greatest pic but you handled Marks one which looked in better condition

Here's the pic you posted for comparison

Yes Mark's one was 100% better, my friend is returning this one today. It was hard to capture with an I phone but where the lugs were polished you could see it was not even. Shame he missed Mark's in hindsight, however he is happy to wait for the right watch.

Hi Kier
The watch case is very polished and has uneven lugs. I'd certinally be asking for a refund
Hope it works out for you

No not now as he has left - disappointed I must add. The clasp showed signs of polishing also, the coronet was visble but not prominent. As I say it's going back as he received an email prior to purchase stating if in anyway not happy with the watch it can be returned for a full refund, plus he is covered under the distance selling regulations.
