Just bought my first Rolex

Just bought my first Datejust. Very excited

Couple of questions, please:

The wristband is too tight, do I need to take it into a official Rolex dealer to get it fit right on my wrist??
I bought it on Ebay, paid a little over $4,000 for it. Seller is 47thdiamond.

It was appraised by GEM Scientific Laboratory Inc in NYC. I hope its real....LOL

AD should size it for free but if he charges you should be $20 or less only.

There are a lot of very knowledgeable members on this forum who can help you if you are concerned about the watches authenticity. They wont be able to tell much from that one slightly blurry photo. If you post clear photos of the watch and bracelet from multiple angles, you will be told pretty quickly of its authenticity.

Welcome. At least you know that next time you can post photos BEFORE you buy and you will get good advice on price and authenticity. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Please post more photos of your watch, bracelet, clasp. I have some reservations about authenticity unfortunately.

I'm reserving judgment until some more educated forum members chime in, but on the surface something doesn't look right.

I'm with you, by no means an expert but something looks off, maybe the bezel's outer rim and the way the stones are set. It could be the blurry pic though.

Much more than that. Coronet shape is wrong.

More pictures please.

I can confidently confirm to you that the diamond bezel is not original to the watch, its afterset/aftermarket. Could be a learning curve, always do research before you buy.

No, I believe it said so in the ad. I'm okay with that, so long as rest of the watch is real.

Another pic. This is the closest I can get on my Samsung S4:

I bought a second Rolex btw (because I wanted 2 watches). It also has 2 custom made parts. So long as the watch is beautiful in my eyes I dont really care if it has a few aftermarket parts
  • Dial: Rolex Dial with Custom (non-Rolex) Added White Mother of Pearl and Diamond Markers
  • Bezel: Custom (non-Rolex) Made 18K Yellow Gold Diamond Bezel

See link of watch I bought: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/MENS-ROLEX-DA...item27f711db3a

Pic:

I will take more pics when it arrives by courier next week

You are aware that Rolex will not service "altered" or "aftermarket" watches unless they restore them to their original design?

Also, I suggest you have the watches pressure tested for water resistance - as often times aftermarket bezels may effect the water resistance.

Otherwise, as long as you're happy then that's all that matters.

Congrats! 47th street can be tough. They love making bezels and aftermarket diamond dials and trying to sell 20yr old datejusts for 8k.

Date window looks off. You should be careful buying off ebay.

If you're happy that's what matters, but make sure you are properly educated on watch value and red flags.

That Datejust looks real however I can see that the dial is not original to the watch. This is most likely a 16000 series which was made from 1977 to 1987. One of the main things that is an issue is the plastic crystal has been so polished that the date magnification is off. One thing to look at when buying a Rolex is that it's been pressure tested which on that specific model is a must, on the 16000 series the crystal is pressure fitted by the bezel. If an aftermarket bezel is used it can make the watch vulnerable to dust and water getting in the case. Congrats on your first Rolex and always do tons of research and definitely ask people here on TRF before you buy.

PS: don't buy from the diamond district they destroy watches by over polishing and aftermarket part. When I'm on 47th I just look and I am sometimes horrified when I see poor Rolexes abused.

Have a good day.

Thanks guys. Some really good info here.

Picking the right Rolex is a bit like picking the right woman to marry.
The only way is through trial and error...LOL.

I guess we all have to live and learn.

Looks OK from those images, but not perfect. The crystal is over polished, and watch out when it comes to water as that bezel could cause some water resistance issues as some have mentioned.

Enjoy your new watch!

Congrats on your purchases. Good and bad news here. You got into them at a reasonable price because they are whats considered Frankenwatches. Meaning not all Rolex parts. You will have a hard time selling them if you ever try because of this and when you do it will be at a low price.

If you like bling like this, then just wear it and enjoy it. It is flashy attention getting jewelry, and it is more than up to the task. I wouldn't worry about re-sale price, as the potential buyer is going to be someone like you - not a watch know-it-all, but someone who likes pretty things and cares only that the logo and movement are not counterfeitted. Enjoy it.

Yes, I agree with you. I dont plan on selling it for at least next 10 to 20 years, and by then even a datejust with no aftermarket stuff wouldnt be worth more than a couple of grand

The two tone Datejust with the diamond dial is very pretty and I hope you enjoy wearing it.
