Is it true rolex is designing a tourbillion?

I don't think you'd ever see that from Rolex.

This sort of thing is for companies like Patek Philippe and the likes.

Let Rolex do the less complicated watches where less things can go wrong.

I agree, Rolex has no need. Too risky for them too...may fail terribly. Their pieces are accurate enough as it is. Still.... "Only Rolex knows"

I ve heard that Rolex has designed a tourbillon since 1980, same as the new oysterquartz project since 1990, which the Rolex ingeneers are working on since this time.

I have seen Rolex design a few perpetual calender and moon phase models before in their Oyster line but this was way back in around the 1950's. These watches will be worth a fortune today and that's if you can even find one.

As for a tourbillion feature, I never really understood why it would be so expensive. I think its a neat little feature to improve the accuracy of a watch but $100,000+ for it? No way!!

I don't recall Rolex ever producing a tourbillion before in its history and I highly doubt that they will just start doing so.

They've never even made a complicated watch, much less a tourbillion. I seriously doubt it.

They have made a model with a moonphase before but it really depends on how you define a "complicated" watch.

Triple date and moon phase is a complication and a very nice one at that, but unfortunately Rolex NEVER made them, they just bought the movement and modded it, put it in a case and sold it as their own, just the same as the Chronographs right up until 2002.
Most of the movements are Valjoux.
I am sure the guys have had a play, but as far as I'm aware Rolex have never marketed an in house complication,

I've soured to the concept of the turbo. Needlessly complex and pricey. I know that service prices probably don't matter if you can afford one, but it's also crazy what they charge to maintain them.

Unsure about durability. Yes, they are quite complex, but the Panny and Blancpain turbos in sports model had to be heavily tested beforehand.

Of course, no one aside from Rolex really knows their plans, but they do shy away from certain trends most others embrace. For example, their very nice movements are all concealed with solid case backs. While a turbo (single or double bridge) could be displayed through the face as many are, the solid back on a watch of that complication seems to be at odds with the aim.
