I always thought the newer Rolexes (or almost all Rolexes) retained their value to within 10-15% of purchase price. I paid 22% under list for a G series last year. That same model is now for sale NOS by David for 34% under list. It just seems like this model is going down in value. A 16710 is almost near the same price as a 116710LN.

While the 116610LN and LV seem to be holding their value better. The LV really seems to be holding it's value.

I'm considering flipping my GMTiic for the Hulk. The biggest reasons why I can't justify doing it is because the GMTiic is my only Rolex, and the upgrade cost would be pretty high.

I also cracked the filling on my 24 hour (diamond shaped) marker. This will probably lower the value even more.

So my questions are, Do you guys think this model is depreciating faster than 116610LN and LV? and is it worth upgrading (would you do it).

I may have to wait 15 more years till my son turns 18 so I can pass this one down and then purchase another.

Hey Tom! I agree with you that I've been seeing them lately for a very reasonable price. Not so good if you're looking to flip though lol. I think it's because of the demand for the BLNR, most people are overlooking the LN.

If you get the hulk you can expect to watch that depreciate as well. These are modern rolex and you shouldn't expect them to go up in value short term, or even long. If they do, lucky you.

Sounds like you should flip for a vintage sub or sea dweller or explorer.

It may be, from what you describe. If so, it's probably because the BLNR is sucking all of the air out of the SS GMTc room.

My guess is that this is a temporary phenomenon, although it might be a while before this trend reverses. Long term, your watch will keep its value.

As for the flip, I wouldn't do it - I like the SS GMTc more than any SS Subc out there right now, and I can't see taking a big hit to get the Hulk unless you really love it.

I think you're right about the flip. The two watches I was between when I purchased the GMTiic was that and the Hulk. I decided on the 116710 for a reason and need to keep reminding myself of that. It's just hard to see the value depreciate. Thanks for your comments.

Just wear your watch and enjoy it, and don't stress about it. Long term, you will be fine.

It's been around since Basel 2007, three years before the Sub. Add the BLNR and what you get is more LNs available on used market.

I think the list price on the GMT IILN is $8450 USD. You say Davidsw is selling NOS G serial at 34% discount which subtracts $2873.00. That sets the price at $5577.00. I can't find any listing from DavidSw that low except and M serial with no card ($5675). I'm seeing $7275 for NIB Random (a 14% discount), and $6275 for a minty condition V serial (26% off). Help me to see how you figure 34%?

I do agree with you that TRF trusted seller prices for 116710LN are low compared against Subs and also 16710 prices seem high compared to 16610 subs. I've been considering a GMT II and the ceramic LN seems to me to the best price/value ratio in my opinion. I think with your 22% discount, you did well. I believe the GMT IILNs will hold value pretty well, and that the BLNRs & LVs appeal & premium will diminish in the long run.

To answer your question, the price is naturally going down with the release of the BLNR.
Many people want the new watch, and the demand for the LN is weaker thus the weaker price on the re-sale.

Few years from now, when the BLNR will not be "new" anymore, I would not be surprised to see the LN going back up in value, as some people prefer the black version.
Until then, the LN is a really good bang for the bucks.

I think the OP's specific example also suffers from some people's fascination with random serial numbers. Right now a "G", even NIB, will probably sell at a discount to a random. No particular reason why it should since it is a brand new watch, but it probably will.

i wouldtnt but an lv just because my gmt is depreciating. i buy what i like, I doubt if any of these modern models will actually hold there value. but it seems like you got a great deal initially, enjoy it,

It's never ending. Wait till ROLEX announces a SS COKE GMT. Even BLNR might be affected.
