Thoughts on the GMT Master II 116713 LN

For those who have followed my posts, will know that my grail watch is the Day-Date 118238. I have also contemplated downsizing my current collection in order to focus on “quality over quantity”. To date, I have sold my Submariner Date 16610 LN and Explorer II 16570 last year, but have added the Submariner Date 116613 LB last month.

Over the course of downsizing, I have come to realize that I am not quite ready to part (thought I could a couple of months ago) with the following references:

Yacht-Master 16622
Datejust II 116333
Daytona 116520

I also have a renewed appreciation for the GMT Master II 116713 LN. Like many Forum members back in late 2006/2007, I was infatuated with this watch and wanted to add it to my collection, but at that time, I was engaged, planning a wedding and purchasing a house, so any purchase of a Rolex had to take a back-seat. As the years past, other watches were introduced and again, the purchase of the LN was put off.

This renewed interest sparked as I was purchasing my 116613 LB last month and thought that the 116713 LN would compliment the LB nicely. Taking into account my AD contact is yet again, making an offer that is very difficult to refuse, I am seriously contemplating the purchase of this watch. The purchase of the 118238 will eventually happen, it is not a question of if, only when. However, my intent with that watch is for it to be my final Rolex purchase. From now till then, I have no intention to sell any of my current references and would rather add at this moment. The references I add from this point on are meant to be kept long-term as I am not a flipper.

So, to all Forum members who have faced a similar situation or have thoughts on the 116713 LN, please provide some feedback. Thank you in advance for your time.

I personally love the TT GMT-C, it checks a lot of boxes for me. I have had three of the same model over the years and this last one is here to stay, in fact it is my Avatar. I think that it can be worn in any situation, plus since I travel a lot, the GMT function is much needed. I am currently looking for a full gold watch and the YG GMT is on the short list with the Sky Dweller. I will still keep the 116713 no matter which one I end up getting. I have to agree. But, I also tried on the full gold version yesterday and to me they both bring something different to the table which would allow me to keep both.
In the end, it sounds like the OP had this itch since the TT GMT-C first came out and we all know that " in the watch world ,when something itches, it must be scratched."

I think it's a fantastic watch...I had one a few years ago but flipped it. My only knock on the watch was that while I loved the bold gold numerals on the bezel, I wasn't crazy about how they blended with the SS case...that is super silly and picky, I know.

I agree, I think it would make a super nice pair with the LB you just got...I have been thinking about re-visiting this piece or the YG...the YG is one of my grails, so that will probably be the way I go. Good luck with your decision!

Your only knock against this watch is not silly. We all have our little idiosyncrasies when it comes to watches and other things. I appreciate your comments. The bold yellow gold numbers is one of the major draws for me along with the green GMT hand and lettering.

The yellow gold GMT would be a sweet addition to your collection. Personally, love the one with the green dial.

I too love the green...but I think I am leaning toward the black the next go around...we shall see. Thanks Eric.

Sounds like a no brainer. You've loved it for quite a while. Give it a go and if / when you're ready to move some other pieces, you already know which one's could go.
I think it's a great looking watch. Along with your LB, the 2 best looking TT watches in the market!

I agree with Larry on the TT GMTc and that's why I went for the YG, it does flow really well. I personally think you have the best TT already so I would seriously consider selling one other piece and getting the YG GMTc, I know it's not really in your thinking now but trust me if you do, you won't regret it, it's a beautiful piece, here's a pic to encourage you

Great to see you this past weekend, my friend! When I was considering the purchase of my first Rolex, I was also looking at the 116713LN, but had to go with the itch from the 116613LB. That GMT is a beautiful piece and I'm sure you won't regret it or the consideration from the AD. Good luck with your decision.

I must say, if I were choosing my first Rolex and it came down to the 116613 LB or the 116713 LN, the LB would have been my choice too by a long shot. Thanks again for chiming in.

My pleasure, mate, but just remember the trusteds here sell this at really great prices, probably the best value gold Rolexes of all, so it might not be quite as painful as you think.

If this was a year ago, I would agree, but the Canadian dollar is going down the toilet almost on a daily basis as of late. Once I do the conversion from USD to CAD, the prices are getting pretty close to comparable to Canadian AD pricing for brand new pieces.

Your collection is great, but I would skip this one and put the money towards the DD you want. I would also consider getting rid of your TT DJ and put it towards the DD. Once you get it, your other watches probably won't get the wrist time.

JJ, I was seriously considering this a couple of months ago, but have realized that I am not quite ready to part with the remaining pieces I have. Saving the funds for this purchase is sound advice. I think I might wait it out for a little while and see if the itch goes away. If not, you and I both know there is only one way to scratch that itch.

I currently own a 116610LN, 116710BLNR, and a 116234 White Roman DJ.

I have been building up the anticipation for a couple years. For some reason my 35th birthday seemed to be a good reason to pull the trigger!

Thanks for sharing your personal story and picture. The TT GMT looks fantastic on your wrist. I hope you get it this August.

Somehow this thread got turned into a TT GMT vs. DD debate. Need to get it back on track. Thanks again to all who replied with their thoughts and comments about both amazing timepieces. Your opinions have been greatly appreciated.

For the record, still on the fence between the 116713 LN and 118238. Both are fantastic references in their own right and serve personally serve different purposes for me. With the all the talk of the pending price increase (Canada not affected yet), I don't want to make an impulsive decision. Again, thanks for all of your time.
