Guys,
I seek your advice...
I purchased this older Daytona TT 2-3 weeks back from a reputable dealer from Florida.

Last week I took the watch to a dealer that has a great stock of pre owned Rollie's. He prolly has 25-30 different pieces in showcase as well as 50-60 Brietlings and 15-20 Pams... Nice selection... A friend of mine told me this guy has nice stuff so I payed him a visit wearing my TT Daytona. To make a long story short I bought a Black mother of pearl dial from him and had him install it. Problem is this, I go to pickup watch this past Monday and it looks like this... bad scratch on side:

He takes it back, polished it and it was fine, I then notice within a day or 2, 4 dents on the side of the lugs...

There are 4 equal distant dents, 2 on top and 2 on the bottom lugs which you can't see.

What should I do? At this point do I want him touching watch further,? Or possibly trade it for another watch that equals value? He seems like a reasonable guy, but not sure how he will act, he kinda tried to play off the first scratch like it wasn't his fault, but was happy to take care of it!? Thought guidance appreciated??

The Black MOP dial looks awesome! Sucks that he roughed up your daytona though,,, Without a doubt i would be upset.

With the damage done to your watch, I would say he did work for RSC in NYC

In all seriousness, I would be pretty pissed. I think you have to take it back to him and show him the damage. I would want to send it to ABC Watchwerks and have them fix it and have the seller foot the bill. Honestly, I don't think it would be any more than $300-$400

Can be fixed but will remove more metal.

Get him to fix it then decide

No good answers here. All depends on how OCD you are. If it were me i would be looking for him to make things right with a comparable watch.

I'd be mad as all hell fire.
However, that's not going to get it fixed. Be polite, see where it gets you, then send to RSC. It's goona cost you, but that dial is sweet, and I wouldn't want to trade it out.

I would certainly bring it to his attention... hopefully he accepts responsibility and offers an acceptable way ahead - if he denies it, would hope you have photos dated that can substantiate your claims - then it would obviously fall into the legal realm - hassle, but perhaps worth it in the long run. So sorry - good luck.

My thoughts are that I don't even want to wear the watch anymore... I will always think of those dings... If this watch gets fixed, it means another polishing. I was just fully polished because of it's age..... Im very disgusted...
The botton lugs have the same dings... Equal distance...

IMHO, get it fixed and hang on to it a while before flipping it. It's a beautiful watch and the new dial is spectacular. This is coming from someone who's not a huge Daytona fan, either. I really, really like it! I think that down the road you might regret getting rid of it. Again, just my opinion.

Yeah I couldn't live with those dents, I'm a bit ocd with my watches though. I'd take it back and try to work out a deal to trade it out with a model he has in stock. You could always explore the option of getting a new case at his cost. Just depends on how much responsibility he is going to take for the damage.

OK, maybe its just my eyes or the image but, is it the same case and bezel??? do the serial numbers on the case match up? the bezel seems a little more worn on the MOP one along with the ss parts on the lug arms when you compare with the grains in the metal part.

Wow! Such an amateur job on his part! I recommend to bring it to RSN NY and get an estimate of how much to repair it, then bring it to him and ask him to pay for it. I would not let him touch my watch again, so I'd politely refuse if he offered to fix it himself. As they say, no one takes care of your stuff like you do. By the way, that dial looks awesome!

I say you go in there and ask to see some watches. You said he had a good selection. Find a watch or two you like and work out a trade. I wouldn't say anything about lugs until the very end of negotiations to get him to give you the deal you want (I would put a value of $500 on lug damage). Going in there firing is only going to get his back up and you won't get any resolution. I would play it cool, and then sucker punch him (not literally) when he has his guard down.

Get him to give you a replacement of the same exact watch. This is not acceptable. When you get an oil change on your car do you also have to change your hood cause the mechanic didn't know how to open it?

I see what you guys are saying, think bezel had a lot of prints on it, but I will check in morning... It's the same watch for sure... I will clean it when I wake up. He has another TT Daytona in his showcase. I'll play it cool with him, but he can't touch my watch service wise any further. I still have to get the watch replaced so I can't go in blazing. Not sure if those dents could be fixed?

Amateur hour...... unfortunately. And so lazy of him not to protect the watch when clamping it for the previous polishing......

But be wary of just agreeing to let him polish it out each time as you will be losing metal on every occasion. I'd probably get a second opinion as well about what options you have before I gave it back to this guy as he clearly can not be bothered to provide the due care and attention that is required to work on watches........ Maybe he has a car maintenance business on the side and was just back from swinging a sledge hammer at something.......

I had something similar happen to me on my first watch. I went to the AD I bought the watch from to try out different straps. Once getting home I noticed the back of the lugs were scratched to s**t! It put me off straight away! Couldn't look at the watch and I was so upset. In my situation though the AD was a large chain (goldsmiths) who replaced the watch with a brand new one. It was only £2600, so don't know if that made a difference. This guy you went to sounds like a independent store so don't think the same would apply, but you could try it, but I wouldny accept for him to do any more work on the watch.
