Need To Justify Your Rolex?
We here ALL know that our Rolex is one of the greatest things one can own - true craftsmanship on the wrist
Apparently though there are non believers out there you know those people that would try and deter us from owning such a great item Something to do with the cost or some rubbish like that . . . . . So what to do if faced with opposition from a non believer? Break it down and sell them on the benefits and the investment Let's call it 7,000 cost (dollars or pounds or euros or any other currency) and 5 years. Right lets go: 1. Divide the 5 years into 7,000 and you have a cost of 1,400 a year. Umm not good enough so divide it by 365 days and that works out at 3.83 per day. Get that this amazing watch only costs 3.83 per day to wear!!!! That's a sandwich, latte or pint. How cheap is that husband/wife/partner/non believer???? If that doesn't work move on to . . . . 2. The investment line - okay so we know that it costs 3.83 per day to wear this great item for 5 years, but after those 5 years it will be worth (a guess of course but non believers wouldn't know either way) 9,000, which is a profit of 2,000 which means that NOT ONLY do I get back my 3.83 per day, I'm ALSO getting PAID 1.09 a day to wear it (2,000 divided by 5 divided by 365) so husband/wife/partner/non believer I'm actually MAKING us money!! By now you've almost defiinately got an agreement here but if not . . . . 3. Compare to just about ANYTHING else - cars, designer shoes, dresses, holidays, coffee makers, cigarettes, cigars, alcohol, manicures, hair cuts etc etc - these are ALL depreciating or wasting assets. You have zip to show for it, whereas my Rolex is an investment of sorts And if none of that works . . . . . . . . You can always come on here and drool over the photos of people that correctly applied either 1,2 or 3 or of course didn't need to |

The only person that I need to justify any purchases to is the one I look at in the mirror.
I understand the concept though. I used to be in a marriage like that.

Maybe there's a difference in rationale between UK and US. Culturally the US celebrates success and the trappings that it brings. Here in the UK you're more likely to find someone for whom you feel you need to rationalize. Personally I couldn't care less, I wear mine with pride.

I always think if someone in the UK were to smoke 20 cigarettes a day @ £7.50 per pack that's £210 every 4 weeks....... But each to their own I guess

I am not sure the general public really cares to have an explanation. As many others have said already, very few people even notice us wearing Rolex and the few that do generally are already sold on the value of Rolex in the first place. Just my two cents...

did I miss something here? how are you buying a Rolex around 7k, then selling it at 9k when it's pre-owned with 5 years of wear on it?

Actually, resale value has no meaning for me at all, because I don't intend to sell, but I do like the idea that Rolex watches do maintain their value very well.

There is never a need to justify jewelry.
The wife has tennis bracelets worth more than a Rolex............... and they don't even tell the time..

I was thinking the same thought? forgot to add you made a great point on the cost per day! I burn that much fuel in 19 miles of driving or the 2 beers from a six pack! LOL
