For me I think it's three.
Currently have a BLNR which I am in love with. Works for every single occasion and I just can't get bored.
Explorer gets zero wrist time and I do intend to sell it; I already sold the Daytona since it did nothing for me anymore.

I wish to add an AP RO to my collection in the future.
And then finally a PP when I am ready.

The perfect trilogy for me.

All three work for most occasions, and will get plenty of wrist time since I will be alternating between three.

The wait for the purchases is the worst part.

How about you?

I think three is ideal for me also. I'm not really a collector, I want to get a lot of use out of each. One for work, every day use; one for casual use, weekends, hanging out; and one dress watch for nice occasions. The problem is how and which one(s) do I give up?

Interesting that your love for the Explorer is starting to wane, I think mine is too. And yet, I have it on today, and it looks great.

It's just sort of difficult having more than 3 for me as some will barely get any wrist time.
I guess if one is into collecting or can afford to have a few watches worn a couple of times a year, then why not.

12 Rolex. 1 Omega, 1 Tag for nice stuff left
Have a couple Oakley, Rado, Movado, Seiko, Citizen, and other stuff floating around.

Most of my watches sit in the bank box, but a couple get out on good behavior every few weeks.

And still open to buying more.

So the perfect #? Not sure yet, but will know when I get there.

Probably no more than 5 or 6. I buy them to wear them, not just to own them. Any more than that and something or other isn't getting sufficient wrist time.

That's the theory anyway. Problem is I don't sell watches. So when I see one I like it seems to find it's way to me and the family just keeps growing.

I consider 2 or 3 to be my perfect number of fine watches. I currently have 3, one tool watch (SubC Date), one slightly nicer everyday watch (TT DJ2), and a thin dressy watch (JLC MUT). I've sold my Breguet, my Patek, etc. and am considering consolidating further from 3 to 2 watches.

There are those that have hundreds. Do they wear them all? No. Some are to valuable to wear, but the owners get a lot of enjoyment from having them.

I enjoy watches to wear, not to collect dust. Have 2 Rolexes, 4 Breitlings, Tag, Oris, and Zeno (and some other). I seem to have favorite for a week or so and then rotate to another one. Works for me, so my magic number is 9 (if only I could sneak in another Rolex to my little collection...).

I seem to think 3 is a good number....on average they all get worn twice a week. However, there are three Rolex's that I would like to have (SS White Daytona, BLNR, and 39mm Explorer) and I already have three that I don't really want to get rid of (14060M Sub, 16710 Pepsi GMT and a Speedmaster Pro). So 6 might have to become a good number for me.
