1955 Montblanc 142 Green Striated FP and Pencil Set - Original

Okay guys,

Here you go.

I waited a LONG TIME to find a Montblanc Green Striated / Striped set that would cause me to cease my search and pull the proverbial trigger. A 1955
Montblanc 142 Green Striated FP and Pencil set in its original green leather zippered case.

I will post more photographs later, but for now this one is worth the sharing as it is to any Montblanc Vintage FP / Set lovers!

This one was a killer.

I can't tell you how many time I almost settled for a single FP or Pencil and went toward an "assembled" set, but am very glad I did not. When one wants a pen / set for a collection the temptation is almost overwhelming (at least to me) to just get it! I waited .......... for a set that was original and complete.

There are not enough years in life to "wait" for what is needed to add to a collection, but this one was more than worth the wait.

NOS! In its original condition. 60 years old. I don't think I could have added a set more appealing.

Again this is only my opinion. But it does have a "sigh factor" to it.

After 10 days or so of writing, I am surprised to say that the FP writes as well as any FP that I have owned.

Smooth and just the right amount of wetness.

Green striated is so beautiful that if I had known about their existence before I started collecting pens, I would've nixed all the other pens and saved up for a green striated FP.

Haven't found either the 144 or 146 set. This one took me about 7 years from the time I set my affection on it so I don't expect the other two sets to be any easier.

The quest is almost as enjoyable as the acquisition.

If they were to offer this set today, even if it costs several thousands of dollars, I would be in the market. It is just that good.

I have the Montblanc Agatha, Hemingway, and many other of the Writer's pens. Nothing that I own compares to this 1955 green striated set. Nothing!

I am glad that I live in a time where a 7 year search for a truly exquisite pen doesn't take a lifetime. Just 7 years. And worth every minute of it.

I have now had this FP for about 5 months and am writing a post Travel Journal with it for my children so they can "experience" my travels with me. Africa, Iraq, Britain, Scotland, Canada, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Malaysia, Mexico, Alaska, and all over the United States.

Dear God! Why can they not manufacturer a fountain pen today like this one from 1955!!?? "Satisfaction" is the singular word that comes to my mind after spending scores of hours writing with it. (Sigh.....)

There are very few "things" that I love in this life for they are just "things", but this thing is one worthy of my affections!

Just deeply notewothy!!!



BTW: There is a book on Travel Journaling that I would recommend for you World Travelers that would like to simply improve and increase your talents and global prose! Globejotting by Dave Fox. This is a fun book that injects quality into your journaling. Common sense comes to mind when I read it.

I wish I had a Green Straited 149....but I would lower myself to a 146 if I could find one

I don't understand why they call it 'straited' it's just 'striped' to me.

I love using my 3BO 149 every day...only problem is waiting for the ink to dry when I sign a letter and want to put it into the fax or scanner

I know an artisan who made a 149 green striated from 1950s celluloid rods that MB chucked out during a factory restructure. He took the furniture and guts of a 1950s black celluloid 149 and transplanted them into this striated pen.

A green striated 146 is easily achievable with the right amount of $$$. They are available quite readily.

Green striated 146 are like USD2000-2500 in good condition (there will be some ambering of the celluloid - a perfect one will go 3500+). That's not too bad for a person of your means Steve ;-)

The 146 is next on my list in green striated.

I would love to find a set with the leather zippered pen pouch. The quest is 1/2 the fun!

Actually yes Lol-x.

The actual price of just the FP in its rarity is about $1500.00. If you add the pencil for the set the pencil is about $400.00. The set with the leather crocodile zippered case as original will cost about $3000.00. But worth every penny if it is indeed in exquisite condition.

This is why I called the set a "once in a lifetime acquisition". They are as rare as anything I collect. From an original ...not messed with... 1893s Morgan silver dollar in XF condition to a Cyanotrichite mineral specimen from the 1980s.

Just superb and something to watch for and dream about...!

They tend to call it striated as the "stripes" are not of evenly "striped" but more twisted like muscle tissue.
