Incoming from 4000ft

I’ve been on the fence about one of these for quite a while. I was looking for a Rolex sport watch that was different from the typical black sub date, with a bit more wrist presence and without being too overstated. In my mind there were two logical choices that met my criteria and that I really like the looks of: a 16570 Explorer II Polar or a 16600 Sea Dweller.
For the longest time I was set on the Explorer II. I really thought that it was the better choice and didn’t think I couldn’t justify the extra ~1k or more for a SD. However, the SD was really calling to me and I was sure that I would regret it if I bought the Explorer II instead.
Luckily, a buddy of mine in Texas was able to source this T serial 16600 for me. It has everything I was looking for: tritium lume, a great original faded insert, and really good overall condition. The very small chip on the crystal allowed my to pick this up for a screaming deal too! The service history is unknown but it keeps great time. Can anyone tell me for sure if this case looks to have been polished or not? Seems like it hasn't but I’m not completely sure. I love the completely over-engineered tool nature of it. I just got it pressure tested this week and I’ll probably get the crystal replaced when I have it serviced within the next year.
Enjoy the photos and thanks for indirectly helping me pick the watch I really wanted, not just what was the most economical.

Brutish. Over engineered. Completely overboard for every day use. PERFECT!

This is one of the aspects I love about it. So much more over engineered than I will ever need but it's definitely something else.

Great watch; if I weren't already set with a Sub I'd be all over one. Congratulations!!!

Lovely watch! Definitely a better choice in my opinion than an Explorer II, much more versatile.

Congrats on the watch....Looks awesome. Hard to tell from the photo's if it was ever polished. A side shot of the lugs would help....Usually polishing at the lugs could tell you. Not as pointy as they used to be...so you'll notice slight rounding of the edges.

Even if it was....It sounds like you got a great deal so just enjoy the watch for what it is.

Great choice. I just got my 16600 after having the SDc for a while. Love them both but the SD is actually getting more wrist time!

Thanks! Yes, they're all great but I'm really enjoying the size (slimmer lugs) compared to the newer SDc and quarter-graduated bezel.

Nice! I've always preferred the SD over the Sub and had wanted one for a long time. In 2008 was planning to buy one. Saw the ad for DSSD - SD on steroids - and bought that instead a couple of years after its release. Very happy with it still.

I've tried the DSSD on but on my 7-inch wrist its just a bit too bulky. Great looking piece though!
