Speedmaster > Daytona?
Let me begin this by saying I for one believe that Rolex is on a completely different level than Omega. That being said i went to one of my local watch stores yesterday and was blown away by the Speedmaster grey side of the moon. Ceramic case, exhibition back, and 44mm, it is absolutely stunning. I have been in the market for a light faced watch either white or silver for a while now but havent found anything that i love. I like the white face Daytona but everyone has one and i also feel like its a little undersized. Wish they would come out with an updated version already and stop making us all wait. I like the white faced AP dive watch but its a bit too pricey for a dive watch and I also like the cartier calibre. I currently have 2 Breitlings and a BLNR and want something a lighter but not too dressy as i wear casual clothes to work and wear a suit less than 10 times per year.
All this being said i guess my main question is am i crazy for liking this Omega over other comparable watches? And what are your thoughts pros and cons for the comparison of a speedmaster to a daytona. |

Well after reading that, not sure how anyone wouldn't tell you to get the Omega?
They are both great watches and I have both, but if could only have one would go with the Daytona, as a personal preference.... |

This! Look at the beauty of that watch not to mention its Iconic status. One my favorite photos of the white Daytona, courtesy of Dr. Tom.

Grey Side is gorgeous. Other pros: It is 44.25mm and it has a date function. You won't likely see someone else wearing one the same time as you.
The only con I can think of: Omegas just don't hold their value as well as Rolexes. But you aren't buying the watch as an investment are you? You shouldn't, as there are better places to invest your money. Buy it because you like it, and don't look back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The GSOTM is nice, but it seems a bit fad-ish to me. Omega released a slew of new XSOTMs at Basel, and, to me, at least, they're diluting the allure of the ceramic Speedies. Grey market prices are already well well well below the MSRP of $12k. I'd go Daytona. Better size, better water resistance and timeless.

You are right, I stand corrected. Weird that the regular Speedmaster with 9300 movement has a 100 meter rating. Not sure why this would have less.

I agree. Not sure how they will endure the test of time. Speedy Pro has stood the test of time. Resale is also poor. Who knows how the ceramic will hold up over time. |

If you love the Omega, go with the Omega. So what if it isn't a Rolex? There's always next time... |

I love the speedmaster. But my favorite SMP is the blue hand broadarrow and thats under 3k. The GSOTM....for 8-9k...I think Id rather get something else.

OP: I don't think it's crazy at all. I really like the dark side and grey side. I finally got the chance to try both back to back and the dark side would be the one for me. |

I am more accustomed to 40mm watches nowadays, thus no longer feel the daytona is small. Having said that, the gsotm is also a well balanced watch despite its size. Either one is a winner. But i think you gravitate more towards the gsotm.

Daytona is the smartest choice imho.
GSOTM/DSOTM for me are oversized and overpriced, having said that if the watch is singing to you... why not. If its a keeper for you so the resale value should not be an issue. |

Not at all. You can't go wrong with either. I would choose the DSOTM over either of those and the Daytona would be my second choice, but if you like the GSOTM best of the two, then I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on that one.

Not a fan of that Omega but if it was the classic moonwatch 3570.50 it would get my vote.

You are not crazy at all.
Both grey and dark side are amazing watches. Would choose either in a heartbeat over the current steel Daytona. Go vintage and it's a lot harder. Older Daytonas were so charming. Great readability. Almost none of that shine. They looked like they were made for maximum usability.
