Rolex explorer 36mm
Can someone tell me the difference between the 114270 and 14270 (main differences and year introduced etc)
Also, a 2007 explorer, recently serviced, good condition box and papers, what would be a fair price? Thanks |

The 14270 has an older movement (caliber 3000), 114270 has the caliber 3130.
I believe the 14270 has no solid end links and the 114270 does have them, not sure though. Older 14270 have tritium (pre '98), anything newer (including the 114270 of course) has luminova. |

No, that's the 214270. Both the 14270 and 114270 are 36mm.

114270 does have solid end links
14270 doesn't have solid end links Upgraded movement on the 114270 as previously suggested £3,200 - £3,500 is the going price for one of these in mint condition with the box and papers. Anything below £3000 is a bargain. |

Really? I though below £2500 was more what they were worth, although I'm not too up to date with second hand prices. |

I think the 3000 was phased out around 2000 or so.
The later models have ROLEXROLEXROLEX under the bezel if that's important to you, maybe around 2008. |

There really isn't any significant difference. With the 114270, you get SEL and upgraded movement as others have pointed out. However, the 14270 can fit a datejust jubilee bracelet, and also accommodates a leather strap much better. A 2007 explorer in very good condition with box and papers should be around $4000.

FWIW... I paid $3500 for a minty 14270 with box and papers and couldn't be happier.
I would factor in $500+ for a service as these watches have some age. I really liked the 39mm Explorer, but the savings vs the AD price+tax ($6500) was enough to sway me. The 36mm size worried me, but after a day on the wrist it just looks classic and great. Be patient and wait for a minty example and spend a bit more for the right example. Mine will be a lifetime keeper. |
