You know Kai, when I first saw this auction months ago, I went into his store (not too far from me) and told him my concerns. I inspected the watch, externally and it looks ok, APART FORM THE DIAL.
Seller told me that he has checked it internally, and between the lugs, and it is good. I told him, no matter what he says to me, the dial is a FAKE, and it would pay him to send it to Rolex for a full service, and replace the dial. This will make it right as well as get Rolex service papers, and hence will get decent money for it. I asked him what the serial was, and he advised N series. Well I happened to be wearing the Comex that day (which is also an N series), and showed him the differences (apart form the word Comex, of course). He sort of brushed me off saying that the Comex watches were different. I repeated what I told him, and ended with: It doesn't bother me whether you sell it or not, but if it sells, you're going to possibly have problems if the watch is submitted to Rolex. As you can see, it has been for sale on ebay for over SIX months. Hmmmmmmmm....................... John. |

I wouldn't buy the story that the movement is kosher. If the dial is fake, what confidence would I give that the movement is genuine? 0%.

If you see any 16610 Submariner...at the bottom of 6 o'clock marker the Dial would either say..."SWISS T - <25"(early batch of Tritium Dial) from later R to early U series(lEXNCSWT inclusive)...for a production period of about 9 or 10 years. Generally by A series(from 1999)...it would say "SWISS" denoting that the Dial has Luminova markers n hands...instead of Tritium...but this was perhaps one of the shortest production runs by Rolex...with such marking. Thereafter...from P series(>2000) onwards...it would say "SWISS MADE" denoting that the Dial would have Super Luminova markers n hands...instead. But in this picture taken from that eBay listing in AU...you would notice that the bottom of the 6 o'clock marker...says "T SWISS T"...which is very ODD in INCORRECT...for Submariners of that era... Also...if you take a closer look at that Dial amongst other discrepancies...you would see that the so called WG surround markers...are again ODDLY n INCORRECTLY placed too close to the minute indexes...n as well as the wrong Coronet n plots...giving further n more rise of suspicions that the Dial...is incorrect or FAKED...! Orchi hopes that helps... Oh btw buddies...generally also...the same would apply for all Rolex sport models like GMT...Explorer I & II...n Sea-Dweller... |

Great Post!!

Additionally, if the dial is suspect, AND in the absence of other info/pic's about the mvmt, the entire watch has to be SUSPECT!! REPORTED. Stan. |

also look at where the "L" in rolex is positioned according to the crown,it is too far to the left.it should start exactly where the crown opening is.

Looks like it is gone, again.
Perhaps this time it will stay gone ! Without this forum how would we know if they were fakes. Thanks guys for your vigilance to help those of us ( like me ) who would otherwise be unaware. cheers richard |

Thanks Orchi for your clear and concise explanation. Now I am one step closer to sniffing out fakes.

ebay is the place to sell, not a place to buy. I have yet to buy anything from ebay, but that might change quite soon, as I start to source bergeon tools from o'seas
