New guy on the forum
Hi, I recently re-discovered my watches and have been enjoying a new appreciation of them. I purchased my stainless datejust/jubilee in 1985 and my GMT II coke in 1996.... I sort of got away from wearing a watch like so many people. A few months ago, I pulled them out and started rotating them and really enjoying having that weight back on my wrist. I purchased these watches new. The datejust was just dropped off for it's second factory service ever, the quick date feature isn't working and the glass is pretty scratched up. I'll probably get the GMT serviced when I get that back, just because.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, and thanks for having me! Cheers, Rob Last edited by Delawareguy; 22 August 2015 at 12:48 AM.. Reason: wasnt' finished. |

Yup, the Datejust in particular had a pretty hard life, hence it's need to go in twice in thirty years. I crewed on ocean racing sailboats in my 20s and it was constantly smacked into hard things, like winches. The first service rated a new lens and I suspect that this will be done again. The GMT has had an easier life, as I purchased it when i was in my thirties, so it didn't see the kind of daily beating the DJ did. However it's twenty years old and has a couple chips on the lens and doesn't seem to wind itself as well as it used too.

I'm trying to post pics, but it doesn't seem to be working, any secrets? I clicked the paper clip and attached there. Perhaps the files are too big?

DJ and a Coke! Super versatile pair! Welcome to the forum, this place is awesome.
Love the engine turned bezel and jubilee combo on the DJ. Does it have open dates on 6 and 9 as well? |

I requested that they swap the dial out to blue on the datejust. I'm interested to see if they will do it.... After thirty years, i'm thinking it's time to mix it up a little. Anyone have any insight on the likelyhood of the Rolex doing it?

Not an issue as long as was originally available. They will not otherwise.

I am referring to the actual date display on your Datejust.
Here is a great explanation of precisely what I'm talking about: http://thegreengmthand.com/about/use...lex_date_wheel Your Datejust appears to have the "open" 6 and 9 on the date in the picture you posted. I really like that combination with the engine turned bezel and the jubilee. Great watch IMO. It will look stellar once back from RSC. I would leave the original dial - but that's just me. |

i have the receipt for the DJ, it cost me $1020 in 1985, which is more than I remembered.... I have no idea what I paid for the GMT II in 96, I don't have the receipt. My wife threw the boxes out! I do have the paper work for both watches which is nice... but I don't know how the receipt for the new watch got lost.

I'm pretty sure they had a blue face in the mid-eighties. I remember struggling with ordering a blue one at the time or getting the one in stock... needless to say I wore the watch out of the store!

I was thinking of getting my son a watch for college graduation next year... or possibly giving him one of mine. I have to admit the prices of the new watches is somewhat staggering.

Got it. I'm struggling with the face issue. If they won't do it the choice is easy if they will?...
