Wife influencing my decision!!!
Bought a GMT master 2 Pepsi S/S about a year ago and shared with this forum, I enjoy reading what you guys discuss on a regular basis. Due to recent good fortunes I have decided to "upgrade". My local dealer that I bought the GMT from(which is a 2004 model by the way), has a 2011 116610 sub that I want. I love the model, the size, it really just catches my eye. So my wife looks at it tonight at the store and says, your GMT just looks better than this one...I was floored. She seems to think the sub is more muted looking, never mind the Pepsi bezel. She is referring to the stainless steel and crystal, and that mine just has more "pop". I guess I could see where the much newer stainless steel is maybe a little more muted?? The GMT has never been "polished" but I do keep it wiped with a cloth regularly. Is it possible that this has given it more "shine". She is on board with the trade but I hate, and you guys know what I mean, when she has a reservation about something. She is proud I can do it, but I don't like upgrading to something when my spouse thinks it's a step back in her "non Rolex way of thinking". Thanks everybody, curious what your opinions are.

She's not wearing it, so who cares? My 2 cents.

You're obviously not married...
OP, could it be that she's just USED to your Pepsi? That's how my wife is with my watches... My wife doesn't do change well, but I change watches well. So, she gets used to one, and BAM, it's gone. She misses the old one, but warms up to the new one once she gets used to the change. Also, I always ask the wife's opinion on a new watch. |

She just gave you her opinion. No need so upset.
Since my wrist is small, I seldom look at the watch with 40mm case. If you ask me the look of these two watches, I think it is identical. (I know the bezel, an additional arrow hour hand and movement are different.) |

You can be wrong or you can listen to your wife!
Isn't that how the saying goes? (sometimes it's okay to be "wrong" though!) |

Lol. Well I'm in the process of picking up a SS gmt master ii and am going to install a Pepsi insert on it. My other half told me that she thinks I should get rid of my GMT2c as its boring compared to my bluesy and soon to be incoming Pepsi. She told me to flip the LN for a black explorer ii.
Maybe she's right. Id hang on to the Pepsi and save enough for the sub and buy for less from a trusted seller. My .02 |

Wife influencing my decision!!!
Give her the GMT, as she seems to really like it, buy the Sub and "borrow" the GMT back in a couple weeks or so, now you have 2 really cool pieces, and a happy wife.

Keep the Pepsi and save for the Sub--I think you will regret parting with the Pepsi in short order.

I am with your wife on this one. Certainly not an upgrade in my eyes

I'd Hang onto the gmt. It's a cool watch and does pop more than the sub. That said, the sub is my favorite watch. There are certainly enough differences between the two. I'd explain the same and why you love the sub in the context of a conversation that you'll hold off for the time being & save a bit more for it. If she's onboard with the idea, it could be a great present down the road.

Honestly, everyone has a sub, the 16710 is Rolex class and style at it's best, Heck Magnum PI wore one, and John Glenn enough said...

I can understand your dilemma. We all don't know what type of relationship you have with your wife and how that can have a huge impact on your decision. I was in the same boat not to long ago in a similar yet a little different way.
I was on the search for an explorer II. My first choice was the newer 42mm but I could not find one local. What I did find was a two tone sub with the blue bezel and dial. Beautiful looking watch but I wanted the explorer. We talked about it and she kinda convinced me to get the two tone gold and stainless sub. Her thought was if your going to spend that much money on a watch get the flashy/nicer one……That really made me think and I suppose I got a little brainwashed. She thought that the explorer II was just to plain looking and looked like a regular ordinary watch and did not think it was worth the money…. Unfortunately when I went down to get the sub it had been sold and I looked around and finally found the explorer II….When I brought it home she said "thats nice" and did not seem to excited about it. She asked what happened to the gold one and I told her they sold it. So yeah I can relate to you and your story as my wife got in my head and made me feel a little gloomy. But that all goes away after a few days or so and back to normal living. |

Listen to your wife.
There is no reason for both of you to be wrong.

Post pics of your gmt - Pepsi gmts are hot and in demand I think your wife is very right in this instance - if you can get both I would go that route you can always sell the sub back on but to get the Pepsi back will be tough

If possible, hold on to the Pepsi and maybe start a plan to add a SubC.

I'd say save to have both. I have the sub and have been looking for the right Pepsi at a fair price and it's not that easy of a task.
