Buying first used Rolex...Question

I am getting ready to make my first online purchase of a used Rolex.
I have found the watch that I want and am ready to pull the trigger. The listing is from a trusted seller on this site. My question is this...When you purchase a used Rolex do you ALWAYS have it checked by an AD? This watch comes with box and papers. It was serviced in 08 and has the service paperwork as well. Having never purchased a Rolex before I just wanted some info. I feel good about the seller and have lurked on this site and others enough to see that they are a reputable seller as well. Any help, opinions or experiences would be appreciated!

It's DavidSW. I've looked around here and watchuseek and from everything I've seen he appears to be very reputable.

David is among the best of the big sellers here on the forum. No need to worry about authenticity.

Thanks guys! I knew from what I'd heard about him that there wouldn't be a problem. Just was wondering if I still needed to have someone check it out.

You should always have somebody look at it if you have concerns..

However, the idea that an AD would have the knowledge to "authenticate" a watch is folly; most are just sales staff.

You need a watchmaker (who may be at some ADs) who is familiar with Rolex and it's movements..

This. You can never be 100% on used.

It is a know fact in close circles ( hushed a bit) that one of the top sellers ( will not name him) on this forum UNINTENTIONALLY had a high end fake 16610 up for sale.
This one had a real 3135 movement inside.

I would buy a watch from DavidSW without hesitation. I would think about having it serviced in a few years just for lubrication and seals.

The Who's Who subsection of the classifieds is a good place to check a seller's repulation. Search for your seller and see how many recommendations you find. DavidSW is one of the active and highly respected sellers.

I never had concerns about the seller. I did a lot of research on him and felt good about that. I just wasn't sure what everybody did since this is my first online purchase of a Rolex. My local AD doesn't have a Rolex certified watchmaker and there actually isn't one within 100 miles of me. I know a local watchmaker that could service the watch but haven't decided if I will use him or have it done through Rolex when the time comes.

Received the beautiful watch today! For some reason I can't insert the pic in this thread. Every time I try it closes my browser.
