Let's talk Volcano

This is a model, in the AP line that is something of a love/hate model isn't it?

Friends of mine seem to love it or hate it. I love the model, but since it is a model evoking strong emotions on both side of the +/- spectrum, I'm a bit afraid to take the plunge on one...

Orange. It's a strong color no doubt. I've always liked the color orange, as do I like the color yellow. The brighter the better! Like on the FC Diver. Having a splash of color in you live is usually a good thing.

Is the Volcano a slow seller? I'm getting a hint it may just be. And down the line if I regret it, it could be another expensive lesson!

I guess some of my worries are ultimately down to, will I keep it.... Probably not forever, but I'm a bit afraid it may be a too "in your face" as something of a daily watch. I try and give equal wrist time to my watches, and right now I feel I'm at that point. No longer like when I still had the AP ROC in white gold that I sometimes didn't wear for months! Silly to keep a 25K (used) watch and never keep it on your wrist... Didn't make much sense. Sure if money was no object, then surely I would have kept it.

You who have the Volcano, is it a keeper?

I think it depends on a few things:

- how much you like orange
- what else is in your collection
- how long would you wear it at a time

I flipped a LVC and TT Blue sub after about 3 months because the novelty of the colors wore off on me in a 2 watch collection. If I had one of those as a 4th+ watch, they would have been great. I wouldn't want to wear one everyday, but it would be a fun one for nights and weekends, or even two weeks at a time. But I could see gaps of weeks where I wouldn't want to wear it at all. I think this watch would be similar. YMMV.

I agree. If you've got several watches in a collection and you keep it on a decent rotation, it's a great looking watch. Would be a great weekend watch, especially if you wear more conservative watches with a suit during the week. I also love the color orange and think it adds some novelty and flare.

It's a great 3rd 4th etc. watch. For a one watch collection, maybe a little limited. If you are thinking of selling the good news is you could probably buy 2 great watches for the price of that one.

I love it --- I think it is a great piece.

Orange however is my favorite color. And I think it looks great on this watch.

Now, having said that - I think it definitely goes in a rotation. It is a great looking watch --- but over-wearing could make it lose some of the spark. (I don't own one -- but my Orange Planet Ocean is awesome -- but it definitely stays in a rotation)

It would be a good addition to your current collection.

Just my .02!!!

imo it is like the bumble bee in that i would probably already have a couple of watches, including possibly another RO/ROO, before looking at it

on the other hand, you mention it being "in your face" but this is partly what the offshore was intended as. so with this in mind it could be seen as a perfect example of the ROO, whereas the more plain colored ROOs are not playing up to the character of the offshore line

Most wacky-colored APs have gone down in price quite a lot over the years.
The watch you're thinking of was a good deal when it was for sale in Sweden, now, prepare to take a small hit.
You can always get rid of Holy Trinity watches and you never have to "dump" them, at most it will cost you a few k's.

Looks pretty good on bracelet and on rubber too... I used to dislike it, but its grown on me I think its a cool novelty now if you have another 3 or 4 to rotate like others said or unless you really like halloween! :D

One of my favorites since the beginning of my AP days. you can probably have the black date wheel installed to kick it up one notch.

I really like the combination. With that said, I have owned the Volcano twice. Both times it sat in the safe and was hardly worn as it was just a little too sporty for the office and it didn't pair well with anything I was wearing.

To me it is on of those watches that look fantastic but has limited wrist time. Each time I have owned one I have had numerous other pieces and did not use it for anything daily. Unfortunate as it is a real eye catcher.

And this is what I'm afraid of... Being something that I'll use for a week, until it ultimately stays unused.

Great move on your part Andreas!
I love the Volcano. You should consider picking up an AP rubber strap for a nice alternative.

Thanks!
I have two AP's on Rubber. But I agree with you, and I was actually thinking about doing so, especially if I was to go on holiday with the volcano, the leather isn't too smart for swimming/beach.

No matter what AP it is I love it as I love the brand. But this def is on the bottom of the list. I can't imagine seeing myself or anyone else really wanted to wear this regular as the color is very loud. If I had a collection of 30 watches I can see myself buying something this loud but not on the practical side.
