Safety Deposit Box Question

My local bank has the following safety deposit box size available.

Anybody have a similar size? I believe it's 5x12x2.

Suggestions how I should store my watches in it? Watch roll? Cloth pouch?

Thanks for your input!

I use the rolex coffins for most of mine.

Get a few watch vaults from Amazon and store each one individually... Don't forget to keep warranty card in an envelope in there as well...

Cool this sounds like an easy solution.

Thanks!

Oakley Watch Vault or similar might be too large for that size of safe. once the watches are in the safe they're not going anywhere, so you could just wrap them in small cloths and they would be fine.

Lol. I got sick of making deposits at the casinos. I'd rather burn my money a different way in Vegas. Lol!

Unless someone beats me to it, I'll measure mine when I get home.

That's the size I use. Nothing fancy- I usually wrap them in a tee shirt and they fit just fine.

For that box the green Rolex pouches with the bracelet divider would be the ones to use.

Yep, or a small piece of cloth/fabric to wrap the watch is all you'd need. It's not like it will be bouncing around in there once locked up.

In case you don't have those small green pouches from RSC, I sometimes store watches in small bubble wrap envelopes. I just insert a bit of foam between the bracelet and caseback.

I have a box this size and I just put some flannel towels in the bottom so it's good and padded and then I just put my watches in there (just the special ones) and rotate as the notion strikes and the bank is open.

Just curious, how often do you rotate stuff in and out of your safety deposit box? I haven't put my watches in there because I never know when I'll feel like wearing one. Yes, you can call me fickle!

Safety Deposit Box Question

I work for that bank, couldn't help but notice the logo. Safe deposit boxes are usually a standard depth size (front to back.) It's a matter of choosing height and width. The yearly rental cost depends on the size. The smallest size we offer is 3 inches high by 5 wide. Not quite sure the depth but I am almost positive it is deeper than 12 inches. If I had to guess its more like 18-24 inches deep.

Off the top of my head, I believe the rent for that size is about $60 per year. There may be a discount if you auto debit the rent from your account (in FL it's a $5 discount) other discounts may apply depending on your checking account's product name. Depending on your state, the products differ. In FL the PMA account gets the largest discount.

The next size up should be 3X10 wide if I'm not mistaken. I am off tomorrow but can measure depth for you if need be on Monday.

Safe deposit box.

We have several. Have no idea how big or small my wife deals with them.

You're pretty lucky to get one, they're very hard to get these days and waiting lists can be years. Wells is a good choice!

My bank set me up with a 4x5x18. The previous one didn't fit the casebuds.

Safe Deposit boxes at your local bank are just not that 'safe'. I would recommend purchasing a Liberty Safe and having it professionally installed in your house. Does it cost a few dollars more compared to a Safe Deposit box, sure. But, we are on a Rolex forum here so...

I have worked for a total of two banks in my career and both had a branch in which their vaults were burglarized. Earlier in my career, while still in school, I worked at a branch part time and managed the vault inventory. If, after a certain amount of time, your account was passed due and we had to open it - simply screw in a screw in each key and use a hammer to pop out the lock. Very simple to do.

Safe deposit boxes are not insured - if anything happens to them the bank is not liable. Get your own safe and have it installed properly. Lets face it, if you own a few Rolexes then you probably have a few more items that could be stored in there...

Thanks,
dr

I would never use a safe deposit box. Insure your watch and keep them at home. Once they are insured, you are good to go.

Please look at the above story on Wikipedia.

I'd never trust my valuables in one. At home with good insurance policy for me.

not sure what the laws are in the US but here you can insure items (at your own cost) that are stored in a bank safe, and the fact that they are stored there brings the premium down to lower than if it was stored at home

but yes agree with the gun vault solution plus if its on a timer a thief could not get in even if they managed to secure the means to open it (through threats or finding a key)
