Not that this applies to me BUT I was wondering what happens when one does lose it?

I know these cards are valuable not only for warranty repair but also for customs purposes when reentering Canada for example.

If the watch was purchased in Canada, the warranty card will have the retailers stamp on it so you are all clear with customs. Otherwise, you get the evil hassle form Canada Customs and that just sounds painful.

SO if one loses the warranty card, can you get another one?

Your AD should have your info on file to back you up with warranty. As far as customs goes, I have never been asked about my watch. Your receipt will prove when you bought your watch, and I don't think customs expects you to carry that around. If you are on the up & up, you should have nothing to worry about. Those people look at body language more than what you are wearing.

When I purchased my blnr, the sales guy told me to always carry the card if travelling international.

That's what I was told too....

I think this is to help us when we get back into the country.

BUT this also means the card can get lost!

AND it's kind of lame that we have to do this.

Not really lame imo. Anything to avoid getting hassled by customs when returning from vacation. The warranty card has the serial number on it, where as a receipt any thing can be written on it.

Oh I hear ya.

When I travel with anything of value, I have a scanned copy of my receipt so they can call the store to verify IF they need to.

I don't need the hassle.

Even worse if you fly into the country from Asia. They will scrutinize everything.

Is this a Canadian thing? I have purchased many Rolex watches at AD's in the US and have never been told this. Interesting

Yep this is a Canadian thing!!

All Canadian's know that our customs agents are trained not to sniff out drug runners but citizens who have luxury goods.

They see two guys one with a Rolex and the other with a bag leaving a trail of white power and they will pull over the Rolex wearer and hassle them

I just scan all my receipts and have it on my phone.

I tell you, Canada customs is the worse. I hear stories and I'm like :O WTF?!?!

They seem to chase after people over taxes more than they do drug dealers.

Everything in Canada is about TAXES - customs, revenue, sales, gasoline, etc.

I have photos of my warranty cards on my phone.

My AD in Toronto told me to just take photos of the warranty card. That is all you need to show custom if they ask.

when you lose your warranty card you probably lost about 500 to 1000 bucks of resale value. Some of you may disagree but the reality is if you want top resale value you better even keep the bag from the AD that you bought your watch from too.

If not more. People argue with this, but all you have to do is try to sell a watch without that card and see what happens. I even keep the plastic coffins they come in.

Come on...Really? I see a lot of nonsense here in this thread. I have a collection of watches and usually have a 3 watch pellican case in my bag as well as the watch on my wrist, I never carry receipts or warranty cards and I've never been fined or taxed or seen anyone else fined or taxed for their watch in all my 41 years.

Not only in Canada, Europe may be even worse for EU citizens when they return from outside Europe. Items with a maximum of 430 Euro value can be brought in free. Everything over it's up to the traveller to prove that VAT was paid. If you can't by not having an invoice than you pay if you're pulled out of the line.

Sorry guys but this is just silliness. I've never once been scrutinized for the watch on my wrist while entering Canada in all my years of international travel as a Canadian citizen. I've also never seen anyone else pulled off to the side for their wristwatch. Geez, for more than half the year it's under a sleeve.

Have to agree and travelled most of Asia not once been asked about any watch I was wearing,or had to show any sort of documentation plus bought a few on my travels .

Me either, and I travel quite a bit. Never been asked anything about watches. Now computers and phones, that is another story !!

This is an interesting read.

My AD contact also advised me to carry the warranty card/papers when I travel as he and some of his clients have been "hassled" by Canadian customs. I always carry my warranty card when I travel, but it has never been an issue for me, however, it has for my wife.

We were coming back from Italy on our honeymoon and we cleared customs and went to pick up our luggage and at that time, I went to the washroom while my Wife waited for the bags. It was at that time two customs officers approached my wife and asked her about her Rolex and started in with the "oh-so-pleasant" line of questioning. My Wife told the office that I was in the washroom and that I had all of the documentation. When I got back there, I showed them everything and they said OK. I said to my Wife this was BS and was then about to approach them to ask them why they checked on my Wife after the fact and perhaps they should have done their job properly in the first place, but my wife grabbed my arm and said let it go.

She did overhear the senior officer talking to the junior officer saying that you need to keep an eye out for watches and jewelry. The scary thing is they appear to have the power to question you after you clear customs.
