AD vs Non-AD?
Having spent time at both, I would say that in most cases the non-AD are more knowledgable about Rolex and have more passion for watches. It's been my experience that the ADs act like the watches sell themselves and they're just there to handle paperwork. What's been your experience?

Just depends where you go. My AD guy loves Rolex as much as I do. He is one of the owners and is always there to wait on the Rolex customers.

from my experience the guy at swiss luxury.com is 100 times more knowledgeable about rolex watches than anybody at reed's jeweler in tulsa ok, they are nothing more than a retailer. yesterday they told me that it was absolutely untrue that any of the z or m series pepsi and coke gmt2's had the new movement of my gmt2c. every time i talk to them they have the wrong info about something during our conversation.
when i picked up my gmt2c from them there were 2 rolex reps there that presented me with my watch. even they told me the cyclops on my gmt2c was just like all the rest of the rolex line. i had them remove a ym, dj and sub from the case and lay them on the counter top with the lights shining on the face. i asked them to read the date and the only one they could read was my gmt2c because of the light reflection. then they believed me about the ar coating on the cyclops. the reps didn't even know about it and one of them had been a rep for 25 years. i have to be honest, so far i have been less than impressed with anybodies knowledge of rolex and their products around my area. the knowledge is on this forum!!

The AD i now use is great, but I have to agree, the AD I used previously did not used to say much and always felt a little uncomfortable as I viewed watches.

I've had good and bad AD experiences at the very same AD. Most of the employees there are very kind and knowledgeable, but there are a couple that clearly show that they're not really interested in watches and are only want to sell you a Rolex and get you out again.

Yeah as people pointed out above it depends on where you go and who you get. The job seems to have a high turnover rate and kind of makes me wish more people like us worked there, to share the passion and enjoy the moments. Either AD or not they are there to turn a profit but the non AD's kind of got into it more so for the desire. A while back someone posted a thread about what a Comex SeaDweller sold for in UK at an auction and a gray dealer owner bought it, and many others. The watch sold for way over 6 figures in USD. In my years of visiting Swiss Watch AD's too many people go there to work knowing nothing at all and do not even have a true passion that would guide them through. At the end it is up to you to try both out and make the final choice but as long as you get the needed info and treated like royalty either or will do. |
