i consider an investment when something is actually making me money...not a watch. however, IMHO, the stainless Daytona does keep a better value than AP any day!

It's shocking how the Daytona stays the same price between a new and a used model. Not many watches I can say that for.

depends if new or used
daytona if its new both are about equal on the used market (as in further depreciation)

If we are talking pure depreciation, the Daytona holds its value quite well.
That being said, I think these two watches are very different and ultimately which one fits and feels better could lead you to the right decision. Personally I'm not a fan of the Daytona. It's too small, the dial is too hard to read and there is no date function. That was enough to lead me to sell mine. I happen to really like the ROC. The date function is placed perfectly and the dial is much easier to read. The ROC is a great modern 41mm and feels much more substantial to me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

AP stainless steel chronograph black dial 41mm vs rolex stainless steel daytona
Just buy it right and enjoy the one you will wear on your wrist.
A few (k) up or down will depend on your purchase price but it's the price to pay for something that will bring you happiness. FWIW, the AP is much more substantial of a piece on the wrist. |

Both are horrendous investments but both are also fantastic watches. I would go for the AP

I'd go for a black dial Daytona over any variation of the ROC any day

The one that you will enjoy wearing more will be the better investment.
Buy right with any AP and you shouldn't loose much money. They are very similar to precious metal Rolexes in terms of buying right and initial depreciation. |

Investment potential doesn't interest me that much. However, between the two, I would pick the Daytona, as it is on the most iconic and important chronographs of all time. The AP chrono is merely a classic AP with a complication tacked on.

I really don't care much on the investment. All I meant is I don't want to spend on a watch and then take a big hit selling or trading later. I'm ok with losing up to 2-3k

Both great pieces. The Daytona does depreciate about 15% when used, so that argument shouldn't be your deciding factor. I own a white dialed ss daytona, and have seriously considered the black dial roc as a next piece. It looks amazing, and really seems to be on a different league (AP is haute horlogerie, after all).

Not sure, but I believe the AP chrono is not a true in-house movement (F.Piguet made). That would sway me to the Daytona. Otherwise the AP is a gorgeous piece.

You are correct it s an F.Piguet movement. But I wouldn't let that away you away. It's one of the best, thinnest, and time tested chronograph movements out there. It's the same movement VC uses in their Overseas Chrono. I would put this movement up against the Rolex 4130 any day. Sure, it would be nice for AP to manufacture their own (maybe soon?) but I wouldn't want them to have to change the ROC in order to do so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Daytona is probably among the best performers as far as resale in all of the watch world.
Modern watches very very rarely qualify as investment quality. Buy the watch you would like to wear.

I have owned both and they are great watches. The AP wears larger, like a 42mm, whereas the Daytona like a 39mm. Resale is strong on Daytona but ROC can be bought at large discounts so not much in it. Both movements are tried and tested, so in the end go for what appeals visually on your wrist the most.

I love the look of both but probably gonna go with the roc. It's bigger. More of a strong presence on the wrist and design is one of a kind. These days seems everyone has a Daytona or some form of Rolex It looks like a mint preowned Daytona ranges from 10-10.5k. And AP roc from 17k-18.5k

SS Rolex hold their retail value because there is a much larger market for them. However they haven't had a price increase in years so you won't be gaining much money (currency spreads aside). Buy any watch right and with price increases you can minimize loss or even make money. I purchased my 15400 before APs last price increase. 2.5 years later I can sell it used for what I paid for it or even make a small profit. Buy the watch you are going to enjoy wearing for a long time and buy it at the right price....don't worry about resale. |

but if you only live and do business in one country then buying a watch can be a hedge against your currency depreciating
![]() ![]() ![]() and it is more fun than owning gold
