First Rolex
I have been a member for just over two years and have done more reading and research in my quest to owning my Deep Sea Dweller. Back in Nov of 2013 I was looking at the Omega Planet Ocean 9300 movement Chronograph and the Deep Sea Sea Dweller (DSSD). I made the decision to go with the Omega but the DSSD was still calling my name. Talking with my great wife of 29 years about acquiring the DSSD and she gave me the go ahead and off to South Coast Plaza to the Rolex store. I stopped in the Tourneau watch store in South Coast Plaza and they had a 2009 Circa Rolex DSSD that looked new (No scratches or blemishes). According to the sales associate the watch was new / old stock that did not sell in one of their Rolex retail locations. The watch was listed at 10k and the store was having a 15% off sale and the price was further reduced to 8.5k. Here is the caveat the watch only came with the hang tag with no box or papers. This is a watch I plan on keeping and not selling. I went over to the Rolex retail store and inquired if any changes took place from the current DDSD and the 2009 DSSD and I was told no changes have taken place. The Rolex store watch and the Tourneau watch looked identical. So after going back and forth to both shops several times I decided the 4k savings over the Rolex new watch was just too great to pass up even though there was no box or papers. I did receive a 2 year warranty from Tourneau. I do have a question about the serial number the first part is listed as: VRX66XXXXX. This was listed on the paper documentation I received and I can not make the serial number by the 6 O'clock position on the watch. I appreciate all the input the forum has provided.

Congrats on your first Rolex! The Deep Sea is a great choice and looks perfect on your wrist. The serial number at the six o'clock position might be easier to read with a loupe. Wear it in good health!

Congrats Got a nice deal there. The "V" serial number I believe is around 2008/2009. It should begin with a "V" and have 6 numbers after the "V". There should be no other letters in that serial number.
Hope this helps.

Congrats on a great watch and a great deal! Don't worry about the box and papers, they only take up space in your closet.
