Picked up my Sub Date from the RSC, St James, London

I'd dropped it in for a service, with clasp replacement, in mid-December, and collected it yesterday.

I was expecting a good job, but I was still surprised to see how good it looked after being in Rolex's hands.

While I was there, I asked about replacement / additional bezel inserts for GMTs. It did become a little confusing but if I understood correctly, this is the current policy:

Rolex will replace inserts, but they insist on fitting them. They will swap colour schemes as long as the colour requested was originally available for the reference.

If you wish to retain the original insert (i.e. buy an additional new one) there is a 50% surcharge.

Anyway, some pics - I came away with a nice pouch and a booklet with the service card. Good experience, happy customer.

Some pics...

Thanks for the info on the insert surcharge. Do you know if it's the same for dials?

No worries. I'm not sure - from what I understood, I think they would only do the same for dials on references where there is a choice of dials from new, i.e. you can/could buy that configuration.

It was a little confusing, I think possibly because I was there to collect a Sub but I started asking questions about GMT bezel inserts - at one point, i think the Rolex technician thought I was trying to put a GMT insert in my Sub.

They are very helpful and I'm sure a quick phone call would get you an answer.

No worries - I don't know for certain but from what we discussed, I would imagine Rolex would only operate the same policy on watches where there is choice of dials for that particular reference.

As I say, it was a little confusing as I had had my Sub serviced but I was asking questions about GMT II 16710 bezel inserts (on the basis that I'm considering buying a GMT II...)

At first I think the Rolex technician thought I was asking if I could put a Pepsi insert on my Sub!

They're extremely helpful and I'm sure a phone call would get you a definitive answer.

There you go... the clasp cost almost as much as the service, £351 plus VAT.
