What was your first Rolex?

What was your first Rolex, and why?

I just wanted to know what people chose as their first Rolex...

I'll start this thread with my experience:

I chose the BLNR, as my first Rolex, for it's functionality, looks, and its iconic/historical presence in the Rolex line.

14060...it was a wedding gift from my wife. I absolutely love the watch for several reasons. Obviously the most important being that it was a gift from my wife (she knew I wanted that specific model...though I had no clue she would buy it for me). I also love it as it's timeless and as some say, the last iteration of a true classic in the Rolex sports watch realm.

That said, had I know what I do now I think I might have made a different choose for a 1st Rolex.

Oh well. Love and learn.

What was your first Rolex?

114060
- clean/symmetrical lines
- benefits of newer models (i.e. Glidelock, updated bracelet, ceramic)
- history

I started travelling a lot again for work so wanted a watch with multiple timezones, and my old trusty travel watch (a Tag Kirium F1 with dual analogue digital display with two timezones) was a bit too beaten.
So bought myself a used 16710 with both a black bezel which was fitted at the time and a spare nearly new "coke" bezel, which I ended up selling separately.

I chose the 214270 because of its a classic simple design that flies under the radar, but it's long gone...

Explorer II Polar 16570 A serial with lug holes (complete with box and everything). Had it overhaul at RSC in Beverly Hills and flipped it awhile ago.

It took me a while to warm up to Rolex. I started researching the DS when I was in my "big watch" phase. Although the DS is 43mm and quite thick, it wasn't really that big compared to my IWC BP and 44mm Panerai. It seemed like the logical first Rolex for me at the time. Fast forward, I still love it and marvel at the engineering behind this watch

16220 Datejust Dark gray tapestry dial. Engine turned bezel. Only dress watch I ever owned. After that, on to GMTs and Subs.

Me too!

I don't think the BLNR has yet reached Iconic/Historical Presence in the Rolex line, but it's sure on it's way!

~~~I have to politely disagree...just watched Deer Hunter for the umpteenth time the other night, and which Rolex was prominent in the watch scenes?...yep, Pepsi GMT
that said, my first and only Rolex is the 114060, and can't say I'm interested in owning any other Rolex watches (guess that makes me the odd man out=:-)
yes!, there are many other very nice Rolex watches, no doubt but the Sub is the one that gets it for me. I considered the older heritage Subs, 14060 and previous generations but in the end, I wanted a new piece to nick up and call my very own, and I love the Glidelock bracelet...just put it back on after wearing my Sub with various NATO's for several months. I so missed wearing the Glidelock for it's convenience. NATO's are fun but the stainless steel Glidelock is one very functional bracelet! Others may have better and different ideas
Best,
Jake
Red Sub. Always wanted a Submariner and it was a right there right now kind of deal so I had to jump in it.
116523 Daytona with Panda dial, two-tone. The Daytona has an iconic association with motor sports, and I'm a car nut. I always preferred the classic panda dials (Newman or otherwise). When the opportunity arose quite unexpectedly 2 years ago, the AD only had two tone Daytonas in stock - while I would have probably preferred the stainless steel case and bracelet, I didn't really click with the white or black dials in the SS version. The variety of dials offered on the TT Daytona were almost all more appealing, but when I saw the Panda dial (black subdials on white face) I was sold!
My Dad had (still has) a TT DateJust that I had admired for a few years and wanted a Rolex, too. I finally caved and went to local AD and bought a SS DateJust. This was about 15 years ago. Here it is about a week ago on my wrist!
Still love this watch, though I'm now enjoying my brand new DateJust (116231).
116710BLNR because it felt so good on and looked great. The build quality and finish is the best.
I used not to like Rolex, thought they were too small and overhyped. I was a Breitling and Omega man, why pay more for less I thought.
Tried some on, still didn't get it. Then I tried the GMT and haven't looked back, now flipped most of collection for Rolex & Tudor models.
Be careful this thing is adictive.
I think is the best diver watch and the top of subs. Still in my collection and hope my eldest daughter will wear it in the future!
GMT BLNR. I first saw the watch buying my wife's Rolex back in 2013 after it was just announced @ the Wynn Rolex store. We bought her chocolate lady datejust chocolate dial on the spot since she fell in love with the watch. I wanted the GMT but it wasn't avaialble yet since it was just announced @ Basel. Fast forward to late 2015 where I finally started buying watches after putting it on the back burner for years for other hobbies.....naturally started with Omegas since that was my 1st luxury watch and there were a lot of models I wanted to catch up on. When it came time to the first Rolex, to my surprise (ok not really that surprised) the BLNR has now become highly desirable over the years and a hot seller. Picked a local trusted seller here in socal and been grinning ear to ear every time I have the watch on.
My dad gave me a 1980 silver dial Air-King for high school graduation. He knew I was a WIS back then, they just didn't have a name for it. He said I was qu**r for watches!
My first was a gift from my mother. TT tog with white dial. I love that watch but have outgrown it. 36mm looks silly on me. My wife wears it now and it will go to one of my kids one day. I picked the tog because I was intimidated by the size and price of the sub thankfully I've gotten over it and become a full blown Rolex addict.
A 16600 SD. Bought it new from a local AD in Kitchener. Loved that watch, and should have kept it
