Make me sick to say but stolen...

A good pal of mine has had a really bad morning :(

His year old Submariner-C Date got stolen today from his locker. It was literally a 10 minute absence, when he came back the locker had been smashed and the watch, and only the watch, was gone. They didn't take his car keys or rings or anything else.

As you can imagine he is not feeling too great as you can imagine. It was his first Rolex, and he loved it needless to say.

Is there any hope of a recovery, the police have been informed. The place where it got stolen has CCTV outside of the locker room, so anyone going in or out would be on CCTV. And the building itself can only be accessed via swipe card, when leaving also. So the area is fairly well controlled.

Is there any chance of using the serial number to log it as stolen somewhere, or to help him in any way at all?

Any advice appreciated guys. Feeling so sick for him :(

Thank you. Is there a form or something to use to do this? Or call customer services?

Insider job for sure IMO. Someone knew what he wore and where he kept it. I would be looking at employees that have access to that area. We have had stolen watches recovered before from the stories here. Ebay and Pawn shops. In the US any stolen Rolex's are entered into NCIC and any place taking them in trade, ie (Pawn Shops) etc should be making sure there are not stolen by the serial number. Obviously if it now goes to a RSC it will be flagged, held and eventually returned to the owner or Insurance Company. Make sure your friend saves all his paperwork boxes etc. You havent said if it was insured or not but from your silence I assume it wasnt. Tough lesson to learn because Insurance is so cheap to get.

It's not cheap in the UK......

However, I would qualify that by saying if you can afford a Rolex you should be able to afford to insure it...even in the UK.

And, yeah, mine never gets left in a locker, it stays on my wrist, or at home.

What is not cheap in the UK? In the US through Jewelers Mutual I pay $114 a year for my 116710LN which is comparable to his Sub C. It was cheaper on my Home Owners Ryder at $88 dollars a year but wasnt as convenient as Jewelers Mutual.

How much does it cost in the UK? My no date submariner with jewelers mutual cost $95 a year. That covers everything from theft to mysterious disappearance. Even if I'm offshore fishing and it just pops off and falls 5000 feet into the ocean it's covered. One of our members here broke his deep-sea by dropping it onto a tile floor and they are discussing whether Rolex will warranty it or not. If he had insurance with jewelers mutual they would pay to fix it. They will not give you money for the loss but will replace it with a brand-new one. For $100 a year to me it's a no-brainer. Just the peace of mind alone.

Sorry but I disagree about the cost. When I bought my first it cost me £20.00 to add to my home contents insurance which has a worldwide cover away from home clause. That put my yearly premium up to £130.00 a year. I now have a lot more watches and its still not much more than £200 a year. The only stipulation was an approved safe once the total amount went only a certain figure.

Thats bizarre, and it does sound like an insider job. Does he drive a nice car? Someone may have followed him into the gym or wherever.

Damn... Sorry to hear.

File a police report and then take that to Rolex and have them put it in as a stolen item. If they come across it I think it will be flagged.

Good luck to your friend and hope he recovers it!

File the police report first, then report it to Rolex (they'll instruct you on how to proceed).

That really sucks. Was it insured?

I head to the gym right after work and lock my Rolex up in a locker. Is it safer then to leave in the car??

I wear mine to the gym all the time.
I'd never put it in a locker.

I do the same thing but wear it unless I'm using the heavy bag.

Then pocket.

Call RUSA in New York at 212-758-7700. Tell them that the watch was stolen and they will enter the serial number in their database. If that watch is ever sent to Rolex for service in any of their Service Centers that serial number will come up and they will call the cops. Also inform local AD's and Pawn Shops of the description and serial number. Good luck!

Sorry to hear this, that really sucks. If they took ONLY the watch then they definitely had an eye on it and knew you would be storing it there.

Hi guys he already did the police side of things, aside from getting an actual crime reference number as of yet.

He has now called Rolex UK and they've emailed him with how to proceed. The phone number for anyone else who ever needs it in the UK is 02070247300

I hope the swines who took it get caught on CCTV

Do you know what Rolex advised him to do? Is it a letter sent to one of their service centres stating the crime reference number? I'm sure that was the advice I saw when my watch was stolen, but would be nice to have the process confirmed?

I hope your friend gets the watch recovered, and the thief suitably punished.

Thanks
