Rolex day daye WG, Franck Muller Perpetual or Lange 1?

Hi
I own a Rolex day date 11series in white gold with oyster bracelet. Recently, I looked at a slighlty used Franck Muller perpetual calendar and a Lange 1- and got very excited about them. Thinking of swaping my rolex for either the Franck or Lange 1. What do you think and whats you advice? I do have other watches as well. Thank you.

I like the classic looks of the DD more, not to mention the PM bracelet and would not do the trade.

I would positively never consider a FM over a Rolex on any circumstance!!! That particular ALS isn't my bag either.

Have to agree with Steve, the FM isn't a contender for me at all....the ALS is nice, but I'd stay with the DD or maybe go Sky Dweller.

Sky Dweller is a cool watch but not in consideration at the moment. I have DD in wg and was just so tempted by FM Perpetual Calendar (not just any FM) and the Lange as fit wears very well not to mention that ALS is a more respected brand than Rolex (no offense). However, Rolex DD in wg is so classy that it does not should like a yg but one knows Rolex or watches can tell it apart from a steel watch.

On the other hand, the draw back of Rolex DD in wg is that it (for a majority) looks like a steel watch. You dont get the bang for your buck in wg. That said then wg, why not Datejust or daytona in steel??

That's perhaps the whole point. Some people don't want to be noticed, and they certainly don't want to attract attention by wearing an obviously valuable watch.
That's why I bought a white gold version. I could never wear yellow or Everose gold. I want people to think my watch is stainless steel.......it's worn for my private pleasure.
And if anyone did notice, or start paying attention, I would tell them it was a fake, bought in Istanbul.

Daydate II is one of all time classic look ever!!

FM have unique style look once everyone wil know this is FM

What the have in common is that they are not sporty and can be worn as everyday watch.

Huge ALS fan here so I'm biased.

Hi,

Personally, this isn't something I'd do myself. Mainly because the watches in question are so very different it's hard to compare them. You'd be going from a full-gold bracelet Oyster that you can safely wear 24/7 and never have to worry about it surviving anything you're going to do, to wearing something on a leather strap that was far more fragile, and which (even if only purely because it's on a strap) could never be significantly exposed to water.

Now, if you're OK with making that kind of a big switch, and can safely cope with going from a robust rugged daily wearer to what is essentially a dress watch you have to be much more careful with, then go for it. But only if these other watches speak to you in a way the Day-Date II doesn't, and only if they're your grails that you absolutely cannot pass up.

They are not my grail watches by any means. They became available at the local dealer that got me interest. I also have a smiliary looking Breguet 5707 (I like Breguets and have decided to build a decent line up them). So they are not must.

I thought of FM because of its perpetual calendar and Lange is Lange. However, should I must have it? Not if its NOT betterr than my DDWG. Although I do have an option of keeping my DD and take Lange as well, but will temporarily upset my budget for a Breguet I have been eyeing.

They're completely different watches. The Lange is truly timely and gorgeous - and for me that's my next watch.

The DD is nice, but when I've got divers the Lange always wins.

The Lange without any hesitation.

I love Rolex, but you can't compare a Rolex to a Lange, you just can't.

It depends on your life style I would say.

Lange is an awesome watch.

But I would damage it in no time. That's why I wear Rolex. I just do anything with them, never have to worry.

My next move is a WG DD40 specifically because it is built like a tank and that no one, apart from WIS, will know I have the price of a decent car on my wrist...

Lange 1

FM - movement was designed by FM who is known as "The Master of Complications". As a consultant watch maker he designed a number and hand built a number of the current complications on the market for other watch manufactures.

Rolex - workhorse, but nothing wrong with that.

Lange 1 - less is a lot more. Some people don't like the asymmetric dial but turn the watch over and look at the movement before you reject it. The best finished movement by a country mile over the others.

Are you talking about Lange in general or this particular piece?

Thats a great answer. Lange is no doubt awesome watchmaker and Lange 1 is a good one to have without spending loads over budget if you are just adding Lange for the sake of Lange.

My question to you regarding FM is this: does it have in it to gain the respect like Lange, Patek, AP, Vacheron or a Breguet?

Frank Muller commands respect. Most people don't know his work designing and building complications like tourbillons, repeaters, and QP's for other manufactures. The watch you show has one of his designed and built complications.

Most people get hung up with his company's reputation for putting Chinese movements into watches that were supposed to be "Swiss Made", but find one of his watches with a real complication and you have something special.

The bleating sheep will disagree of course.

If I were to trade my DD for either one it would be the L&S hands down. But I like the DD the best.
