Explorer II Polar - 40 or 42mm????
Hi all,
Looking for some feedback as to preference on the 40 or 42 Explorer II. I've heard pros and cons to both, the 42 has the orange hand which is sought after but I have heard the dial is distorted with the larger hands. I think I would prefer the 40 myself, but wish the orange hand was available! Let me know your thoughts as I am pretty set on this being my next Rolex purchase. |

you're going to hear a lot of this, but try both on. If you can't get a 40mm in store, try on a 214270 or 14060. The real difference is not so much the 2mm difference but the lug-to-lug.

That's what I figured. I wear a 36 DJ 16013 as a daily so my assumption is the 40 is going to fit best but I love the orange hand and newer clasp

I prefer the 42, but would echo the poster above about trying both on.
some say the 42 "wears large", but with my small/flat wrist I'd say the opposite; the 42 didn't look any larger on my wrist than a sub or gmt...if anything it laid a little flatter and looked better. |

A friend of mine has the 42 and loves it. He has big wrists though and likes large watches. I'm not such a fan of the 42, and much prefer the 40. But then I have much smaller wrists.
Both are great, the rest is personal preference.

Both great watches. I had the 42 but moved to the 40. More in balance and better fit for me.

I've owned both and here are my pros and cons:
16570
That being said, I sold the 42 and kept the 40. |

If you're keen on the polar, I'd definitely go with the 40mm 16570....the white wears much larger than the black and it is overwhelming on the 216570 in the 42mm. Those were my main thoughts for choosing against the watch when I was trying them.

Entirely individual. I like the 42. Case size, maxi hands and markers, orange hand, more solid feel and better clasp. No faulting the 40 though. Just depends on your taste.

Yes, you have to try them on. They wear completely differently and one will stand out as much better in your eyes and on your wrist.

I went 42 because I feel like it's a good modern size and will look better in 10 or 20 years. I absolutely love the orange hand and text. I find the hands to look very nice in person. When you see blown up pictures they look huge, but in person I feel they are very proportionate to the rest of the watch.
My mentor at work has worn a 40mm Explorer 2 (black) for years and it looks amazing on him. Interestingly I think the 40 fits him better - he's a smaller guy. At 6 feet tall and 185 pounds I think the 42 mm version fits me better. |

Here's a pic of mine. For me the black 42mm is perfection. Try them all on and you'll know for sure. Good luck!

For polar dial, I prefer 40mm with red hand.
(Black dial, 42mm with orange hand)
