Thoughts and opinions on the Day Date 40?
I'm yet to try one of these on, but it's really appealing to me lately. Thing is, I'm in my thirties and I normally see this on the wrists of older men than myself. Now that's no bad thing at all, but is it still seen as a watch for the older gent, or would someone like me, who looks all of about twelve anyway, get away with wearing such a thing?
Also, is it a reliable model given the relatively new movement calibre? I saw a photo where the bracelet had been adjusted for a smaller wrist such as mine (6.75"), but there appeared to be a step in the links due to this. I.E. the bracelet normally tapers beautifully down to the clasp, but once adjusted, there appeared to be a mismatch of the taper in the particular photo I saw. I'm liking the look of the following variant... I'm really not a fan of the anniversary green option, and white gold doesn't appeal tbh. The yellow gold option is a possibility but I have a yellow gold YMII currently and I feel that the yellow gold suits that model better. As much as I like the Tony Soprano yellow gold model, I feel the rose gold is the most suitable option? |

The ultimate retirement watch for the successful person who probably isn't necessarily into watches. The Lexus of the watch world?
If you really want one, then go right ahead, but I can think of a ton of more interesting watches at the price, and below. These are my personal views, and if you don't like them I have others. |

I really like the new DD40. I would go YG, but I don't already have a YG watch. Wouldn't worry too much about the reliability of the new movement....Rolex are fanatical about reliability. I assure you that its been thoroughly tested

I dont like fluted bezels so its an easy pass for me.
You can get away with it if you are comfortable enough to wear it. Does not sound like you are at this time. |

I tried on a rose gold with chocolate dial and I'm 30. I would rock that every day of the week if I could afford it

Too many here worry too much about what other people think. Every watch that Rolex puts out has its fans and detractors. If you like it, that's all that matters, IMHO.
I have WG with silver quadrant dial coming in on Wednesday. I have the opposite issue in that they had to order 3 extra links (I'll probably be either +2 or +3 links) for my wrist so I can't help with the bracelet question. Here's a pic from ablogtowatch site. It doesn't look like an old guy's watch to me: |

Life is short. If you like it, get it, and who cares what anybody else thinks? YOLO.

I was in my thirties when I had a RG DD2 and the new 40s also look great, the RG choco is my fav, very modern and vibrant combo and has more dynamic contrast than the sundust, altho that is a very smart piece too.

I've never had a fluted bezel and I find them mesmerising. The way they catch the light has always been something that attracts me. |

Recently I tried both an 1803 and even an 1811, but neither really appealed. Too tall for such a small diameter IMO, as nice and classic as they are. Normally 36mm is very acceptable for my wrist but I think the 40mm would be even better.
My YMii is 44mm and sits on my wrist really perfectly, even though I have a small, 6.75" wrist. Rolex just know how to make larger watches wear smaller IMO WITH CURVED LUGS ETC. |

Rolex have quietly issued an upgrade for the 3255 movement as used in the DD40. The problem has been poor and inconsistent change over performance. They are designed by Rolex to switch within minutes of midnight. That's the Rolex specification. But no sample I personally know of has done this' I've had three samples, a friend had two. They were changing up to 90 minutes late. Hence the upgrade. It's all being kept very quiet. But the information here is accurate.
All this is covered by the guarantee of course. I suspect many owners have never noticed, or it just doesn't matter to them. Which is fair enough. |

Fluted bezels aren't for me. Now the platinum on that ap1 has is righteous.

I've worn a DayDate "President" since I was in my early 30s, a long time ago. It's a timeless classic and it looks good no matter how young or old you are. I don't like the rose gold and I like a simple face. I think the fluted bezel is perfect on he watch.

It's a great watch. Whether it's too "old" or not...only you can decide that. Your best bet is to go try a few on and see.

I'm in my early 30s, and I would absolutely buy the Day-Date in Gold. I especially like the new roman numerals on this latest release....and I love the green dial they came out with. I think it's how you WEAR the watch that makes it look old and stuffy. If you're rocking stuffy clothes, outdated haircut, "dad bod," for example, you're gonna' look stuffy. If your look is youthful/trendy, the watch will look hip.

I'm in my 40's and the DD especially in yellow gold- is something I always associated with people of my dad's generation. That's what successful men wore back when I was a kid. So when I went looking for a watch it was the last thing I wanted. I don't think I am alone in this association.
It seems like people a decade or more younger than me don't have these same associations. I see a lot of younger men now wearing the gold DD. I think it's a beautiful watch but just not what I would wear. Primarily because it's what older men wore way back when. Fashion goes in a circle |
