Where does your crown park?
Just pondering on how the Rolex coronet on the crown sits when screwed in just right and thought it would be interesting to see what % of coronets end up in the vertical or near vertical.
Many thanks.. |

I picked digital as I have no idea...one is at the watchmakers and one is in the safe.
These things don't bother me....as long as they keep the water out! J |

Uh oh... I see; it's your Tudor that's vertical, but the photo is of a Rollie. Never mind. Mine is anything but vertical, no matter how it's defined.

My GMT II is facing the 9 o'clock position. Not sure about my other watches.

Good Question!
SS Sub Date - when screwing in the crown just at the point where I feel resistance the coronet is dead on vertical. It is then another 1/8 turn or so to the stop point. I have always been told (starting with who else, dear old Dad!) that fittings with gaskets/washers should not be “cranked” to the stop point as that is “over” tightening and leads to premature wear so I keep the crown screwed in to the point where I first feel “snugness”.
No, apparent, problems at this point with water/foreign matter entering the case although my dives are generally confined to shower, hot tub, swimming pool and snorkel depth. |

Mine started at 9 o clock and now it's at 1 o clock
Probably it has to do with the rubber gaskets

Perfect
lucky you! Mine is no where that looks good. I would settle for lining up either vertical, like yours or quarter after.

My Sub is just a tad past perfectly vertical, my DJ is right on the 3 o'clock position and my Daytona is almost perfectly upside down! Could all be fixed with a pair of vise grips!

mine sits at 11 o'clock.
wnet back to Bucherer 1 day after to ask why my crown wasnt sit verticle... then was told that it'd had to be a "lucky pick"..... didnt know about this, i spent some time deciding which "M" serial number i want for the LV (they had 3 delivered that morning - one in display cabinet and 2 brand new in the plastic box). |

Mine sits perfectly square with the crown upwards (as per my avatar). The secret is not to squish the gaskets by continuously overtightening it - just finger tightness seems fine - leave those pliers out of it!

Mine lines up at 2. When I picked up my Sub from the service center after I smashed the crystal they lady handed me back my watch with the coronet parked exactly at 12. I thought cool they aligned it somehow.... Wrong she just backed the crown off a little until it lined up. For all the precision Rolex spouts off about they can't seem to cut the threads the same on every watch / crown? Seems pretty basic to me... hmmm. This would have driven Howard Highes over the edge!!! "Quarentine...quarentine...quarentine..."

Mine is upside down, right at 6 o'clock. Right side up would be better, but at least it's symmetrical.
