What watch matches this description?

I read a brief article about a rolex model whose dial is segmented into four parts and it has a second hand that has more of a clearly defined tick graduation as opposed to the less well defined sweep of the others.

The article suggested it was a model made for doctors that needed qtrs to show 15 seconds intervals and the second graduation was to provide more accurate time assessment.

Sorry to be vague, but I am interested in what watch matches this description?

Tru-beat.
Ticks once per second.
But I never heard of use by a doctor.

Does have the "cross-hairs" on the dial, but I think that is just a design element, as I have seen that on many other watches.

Anyone have a pic of the movement? I hear the jumper module is a valued and scarce part

Wow, that is a lovely watch!!!!! I was vageuly considering an AK daily beater, then I read about this mysterious 'doctors watch'.

Could this watch not perhaps just have been a shot over the bow at the Japanese Quartz establishment, just as say a Grand Seiko might have been the other way?

Well not really since it predates quartz by some 15 years probably.

Inversing your thought a little, I wonder how well Rolex could do with a quartz movement with a pure sweep second hand like Bulova uses. The Oyster Quartz movements are beautiful if you ask me. I'd like to see something like that get released as a new model. I know this doesn't fit the vintage Rolex theme and I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but I never thought about this before and at first glance, I like the idea. Perfect sweep. No tiny ticking. Incredibly accurate Rolex quartz Submariner with gilt dial, no crown guards, 8 mm crown, big agressive knife edge anlage on the lugs, external lug holes, folded link riveted oyster bracelet, acrylic crystal (the best material ever for a crystal), cerachrome bezel insert, unidirectional... and production quarter and year dated on the internal side of the case back and an understandable numbering system for serial numbers (for future collectors when these watches become vintage). That'd be pretty cool.

I am kind of on the lookout for one missing the jumper module that is otherwise original.

They were often converted to regular sweep because the mech was dicey to maintain and adjust apparently.

I got lucky and bought all the bits for the jump module...accidently in a parts lot one day for free. No I'm not selling. :-)

I passed on one that sold for around $2k a few years back. Still a grail of mine, they pop up from time to time. Much more commonly than your module for sure!

Others answered your question, but here's a video showing it in action.
