Rolex Gift

I was given this Rolex from my uncle. It used to be my grandpa's watch. I was wondering if this is real or fake. What are your thoughts?

Looks real to me. Looks like a 60s era OP Date 1500.

Looks good to me, too. But that brings up an interesting thought... vintage fakes. I remember fakes in the early to mid 90s... that was my first experience seeing some fakes, but I was just becoming a man... I wonder what has become of 25 to 30 year old fakes. And I wonder when the fakes first started appearing on the market. Something I've never really thought about until this moment.

As far back as the 1930s at least. I have some old newspaper archive clippings.

No WAY... Wow... I had no idea... I wonder how much a fake was costing then. A penny?

We have Brequet fake pocket watches from 1780/90ss
Indeed the Museum owns 4 genuine Breguet's and about 21 Fakes - I once wrote an article on it

I guess I haven't been paying attention. I'll have to try to find your article. Thanks for the heads up.

I first ran into fakes in the early 70's.

Well, well. Is this the first time a first time poster has asked about a "gift" and it's actually been genuine?

Not the first I've seen here, but definitely one of the better watches

looks good, looks like a few of the luminous "exclamation" dots have come off though. Same thing happened to my 1501.
