I'm thinking of trading my Rolex yellow all gold yachtmaster ii for a Patek 5960 1a? Any advice?

I wouldn't but also not much a fan of the 5960/1a. The YM II is a great watch with some serious wrist presence.

It depends if you like YG Rolex watches or you like SS Pateks with complications. Even amongst Rolex watch enthusiasts, there are those who love SS watches and there are those who love PM, especially YG watches. But people's tastes and interests change all the time. When a Rolex watch fan is introduced to the world of Patek complications, it is a totally new world. The 5960/1A is not a very popular watch. However it has a nice combination of the AC and an automatic chronograph for a "reasonable" price being in a SS case and bracelet.
On a personal level, I am not a fan of YG Rolex watches and am more of a Patek complication fan. But I think you need to ask yourself what about each watch appeals to you before making your final decision. |

I think it depends on what else you have in your current rotation and how you'll be wearing the watch - clearly the YM2 is more sporty and the PP more of a dress watch.
The YM2 wins for wrist-presence, but PP on the complication and beauty of the movement. If you have other sports models, then I'd probably do the trade.

Maybe I didn't state it correctly. It's not an even trade, he wants me to add 7k and also maybe a strange question to ask on a Patek forum.

IIRC there is a $7K USD price difference between the 5960/1A and the Rolex YG YM II for new watches, so I think it is a reasonable trade offer from a financial point of view.

This, except I like the YMII way more than that Patek.

The 7K makes a difference. I voted for 5960 for a straight up trade. I'd sell the YM2 and buy something else if you dont like it

I'd trade for any Nautilus or Aquanaut, I love the dial of the 5960-1A but have a hard time with the shiny case and bracelet, and I've seen it a few times, the bracelet looks almost identical to the Breitling bracelet, that is kind of a no no for me, plus not a huge fan of shiny sport watches, too bad as the dial is amazing, love the calendar windows which are probably the best I've seen as they have a 3D look, but the watch clearly isn't for me... If ever you do want to, check the sale price for a YM2 and a 5960, maybe you can get a better deal, I'm saying that without having checked but the PP has been loosing value hard recently...

Not of a fan of the 5960 overall look. I saw in person at the AD.
And I do think it's more the bracelet like the aquanaut with a bracelet not looking right. So I would vote no for the trade in question, but YES for many other PPs. |

They're really not comparable to me they're so different. As a current 5960/1A owner I can say with certainty I'd never get a YMII, and yes I have tried them on.

I really hope you're getting cash. No way I'd trade PM Rolex sport for that watch.

I think I must not have been clear. I want to get the pictured leather band for my 5160/1A. Sorry.
