White Gold Blue Dial is my favorite by far but I like platinum more than white gold so that's a tough one. I would probably go platinum if money wasn't a thought. If money is a thought I would definitely go White Gold Blue

pltinum is quite a bit more, but the grail of all watches. Although something about that blue is very clean

Playtona or White Gold Blue Dial Daytona

I've tried on Daytona's in wg, rg, and the Platona. The Platona wins it by a mile. Doesn't matter what dial combo in the other configurations, IMO none of them can compare to the way that thing pops.

I agree, that color combination is unreal. How about value though, will Platinum hold value over the WG or will I take a bath if I ever want out of it?

Pics of both or this isn't happening!

I have not seen the white gold on blue Daytona in person but that has me drooling already
Of course, the Platona is the mack daddy of the ROlex sport watches IMO.

I guess either way, awesome dilemma

Both are equally stunning but if the choice were mine, I'd go with the Platinum.

I think this depends on what you get the platona for. If you go the "trusted seller" route, you should be in good shape. Either way, they are both excellent watches.

I'm sure there are others more experienced with the market values of used PM Daytona's, but from what little I've seen you'd prob take a bigger bath on the Platona.

I'm not sure on all of the AD prices, but I've seen gold variants for sale on the forums for like, mid to high 20's? Platona's seem to be mid to high 40's?

I'm sure those are maybe mint or lower condition?

New Platona is high 60's?
New gold variant on oyster ~ $40k?

From what I've seen, you will take a bath on the platinum if you buy it new. Which is why I always prefer to buy used when possible.

Considering the exclusive pale blue dial and brown ceramic bezel on the Pt. Daytona, it wins by a mile. 2nd place to the WG - it's so far behind you can't see it in the rear-view mirror.
If you have the wherewithal to have either, then it's platinum in my opinion.

I agree. The platinum is the end all watch. I wish Rolex went with Ceramic on WG Blue dial and I would go for it. Still the Blue dial looks stunning

I agree.....if only they hadn't chosen that brown.

It is obviously a matter of personal taste.....but brown? I mean, how many new cars does one see in brown? Who wants brown?

Just imagine...the Platona's ice blue dial with a navy blue bezel....or a dark green bezel....or even a black bezel.....purple....burgundy.....

On the contrary I drive a sparkling brown BMW and I am always getting comments. Brown with this ice blue snaps plus if you read the history of this watch some claim this was Rolex tribute to Paul Newman, blue eyes and brown hair. Trust me, to see this in person, you would be blown away and the weight of this thing is off the charts.

Both are nice, one is not better in any substantial way.

There's no reason to pick one over the other, except personal preference and maybe cost.

I never thought about a PM Daytona until I tried on the platona. It is a special piece that looks much better in person than pics.

This exactly. Earlier this year I was set on buying a DD40 PT, but when I tried it on, it did nothing for me for some reason. Then I tried on the Platona and BOOM. It became a must have immediately.

Haha, I had the same situation. Underwhelmed with the pt DD40 but fell in love with the platona. Did you get one?

Platona can be had at a decent price already. The WG is very new and may not get much, if any, discount just yet.

So money wise, if its a buy now situation, platinum. If money isn't the concern...then its personal choice. I like the fact that the platinum has a ceramic bezel which is big points for me. Has very substantial presence on the wrist as well - have to consider if you are OK with that kind of weight all day.

Haven't seen the blue in person yet, but its looks awesome in the pictures I've seen so far.

Good luck!

Platona, altho a ceramic WG with panda or blue dial would be interesting competition.

I think I am going with WG Blue dial for now. The Platona for me is a lot of weight and its about $15K more.

WG Blue will be incredible. I actually like the look of the WG bezel compared to the ceramic. I think you'll love it, I know I would.
